Regarding help for animals who are victims of Katrina.....
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 01:45 AM by SeattleGirl
A friend of mine who is very active in the animals rights movement sent me an email of a story by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Email address to make donations is:

disaster@hsus.org.

Phone number is 202-452-1100.

I know we are all concerned about the two-legged victims of this awful disaster, but many of us are also concerned about the four-legged and winged creatures, so thought I would pass on a way to help them also.

3. done. I could just die watching the films of animals suffering. Its
somehow in a way I can't describe worse than people. God bless all the people and animals in need.

It brings me to tears also, as does footage of children. I think it is because they -- as well as the ill and infirm -- are more helpless and more in need of help. Not saying that the able-bodied don't need help also, but heck, some are just more vulnerable than others. And that tears at me also. I just hope and pray that as many people and animals as possible can be saved from the devastation.

8. Me too...
I appreciate all those here on DU. During the day, I don't have any news, so I keep up with the world through this website when I can. This whole thing is so tragic...the animals and the kids don't understand how their world turned upside down on them so suddenly and the rest are left wondering why.

4. One of my friends is leaving Sac. on Thursday to volunteer with the
animal rescue effort. I hope she is very very successful. (as I also hope all the people rescues are too)

9. Help is on the way...
That's great! It's heartbreaking when these people lose everything material and then have to deal with losing their animal companions as well. There are a number of disaster relief groups just for animals that are mobilizing their volunteers from around the country. I think the wake-up call was after the 2004 hurricanes when so many people refused to evacuate because they would NOT leave their animals. Our animals have finally become part of the traditional groups' relief plan.
