oh good lord... Greta Van Susteren... |
|
just described New Orleans as "Cesspool with dead bodies floating in the street".
I haven't watched Fox during this ordeal - I think CNN has done a remarkable job - but CNN was showing a repeat of Larry King's show, so I thought I'd flip channels.
What a HORRIBLE, sensationalistic way of describing the problem.
Fuck you Greta - fuck you Fox.

The shame here is the lack of control by authorities. Where was FEMA and the NG?

15. She sensationalized the problem |
|
and it's a problem that doesn't NEED sensationalizing. It's already sensational.
To call it a "cesspool" is editorializing. To say it's a cesspool with "dead bodies floating in it" is sensational.
I could describe the Pacific Ocean as a "cesspool with dead bodies floating in it" and I could probably show I was technically correct, but it would be a horribly sensational way of describing it.

4. Fox isn't really a "news" channel |
|
even though they claim to be. CNN is more of a news channel in the news they have resources and some good reporters which they could put to good use if they want to such as right now and during the Tsunami and some other times. of course they turn whorish many times.
but Fox was never intended as a serious news channel. it was created for the purpose of being a right wing propaganda outlet. so you can't expect them to do any serious reporting.

6. Sounds like the change... |
|
... from Aruba to NO was too much for her. Maybe none of the bodies floating by was that of Ms. Holloway, and she was disappointed....
Bad news reporting doesn't change with the locale.

there's no indication it's a "cesspool".
I grew up with cesspools. She doesn't seem to know the meaning. I had one in my back yard - I can identify one pretty quickly.
The fact that somebody saw a dead body floating in it is NOT a reason to identify it as a source of dead bodies.
There are dead bodies floating in any sizeable body of water on Earth - we don't describe them that way. It's a purely sensationalistic description.

From reports earlier in the day, there's a great deal of sewage and other unwanted material in the water, so cesspool isn't that off.... I agree though, she could have phrased it in a less sensationalistic way, but it is pretty dang gross (not to mention unhealthy) at the moment.

but the Governor's press conference earlier today described it differently.
No doubt there are many pollutants in water like this. But as far as I know, sewage lines are not flowing openly into the floodwaters.
Look... it's pure sensationalism. And that's what Fox does.
I can find raw sewage and floating bodies in the Pacific Ocean, but it would be sensationalistic to describe it that way.

25. I found Blanco's statement odd |
|
The CNN reporters walking around in it described in detail the filth factor, but Gov. Blanco said it was all "just water." I don't know if sewage lines are broken, but I wouldn't be surprised. One thing though, there is no working toilet service in the city (I assume), so you can guess what people are probably ending up using...

we're just arguing degrees.
Fox finds it useful to describe New Orleans as a cesspool. I find it excessive and sensational.
Is the water dirty? Of course it is. But a cesspool is sort of extreme. Are there dead bodies in the water? Probably - but I haven't even seen one picture showing that. It's a silly, sensational way to describe it.
What's going on doesn't need crazy exaggeration - it's already awful and newsworthy. And that's why Fox sucks and CNN, for all its faults, has done a very good job during this ordeal.

All from the comfort of her oceanfront hotel suite in Aruba.

Who on earth gave her a job on television, let alone radio, with such a horrific voice?
The mind boggles. Plus, she sucks, and she's in Aruba while her nation falls apart.

say when describing New Orleans....as a "cesspool"...
I'm sure that Falwell, Phelps and the likes of Pat Robertson have been busy with their prayer groups and phone chains calling and stating that the "cesspool" called New Orleans is being punished by GOD for all its sinners.
