Hurricane Katrina and much more

To:
President George Bush

August 31, 2005

I am a Registered nurse in Eastern Ky and work in WV in home health. I am Republican and not proud of it. My most recent concern is that our great country can't seem to organize interventions for the states that were hit by hurricane Katrina. I sit here after working at my job all day,(middle income)and cooking and cleaning all evening, listening to CNN tell us there are people in Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida without food, water and utilites waiting on help and trapped in many places. There are dead bodies floating by people in water. WHAT KIND OF GREAT COUNTRY ARE WE? Seems foriegn countries can get help faster than our own can. SEND IN HELP!!!!!!!...

1. Someone needs to tell her that Republicans wanted to drown
government in the bathtub; and with that kind of thinking, it was a matter of time before entire cities went too.

6. TPTB are "making money in Iraq"... the financial cleansing in NO will be
quite extensive.

Those with $$$ will make out like bandits snapping up property for pennies.

Those without and no insurance will be displaced , ignored and forgotten.

That is the country that rethugs accept.

10. meeting expectations
I agree. And unfortunately, it is usually the case that we get what we expect. So, how can we change our expectations.

7. There are 2 types of Republicans
Uninformed and immoral. This woman is clearly in the former category. As the uninformed become more informed many will turn away as she has. So I'm cutting her some slack because she's showing the sort of human compassion that no matter how much the neo-cons try, they can't eradicate.

14. Is hurricane relief in the Constitution?
Right wingers are saying it is not the government's responsibility to take care of the people who have suffered from such an event. It is not written anywhere in the constitution that government will take care of people who built in risky locales and lost their homes because of natural events. I wonder what part of "Maintain the Health and Welfare of the Nation" they do not understand. This is the true measure of the person. When they can sit there and say it is those people's fault and their own responsibility to take care of themselves and not the government's we know we are seeing the true Compassionate Conservative. This is why I am a Liberal no strike that a PROUD LIBERAL. I care and want tax payer monies spent to help people in distress and not to kill other human beings. I guess they can label me "radical" for such outrageous ideas.

19. Just like California should have taken over federal parklands
a couple of years ago to prevent the bark beetle infestation there from making their wildfires worse because the feds don't know how to manage it, perhaps we should get some of the states to take over (on a temporary basis until we get the chimp and his cronies out of office) the military and other federal agencies and resources that can deal with this sort of devastation. They have at their fingertips many tool that they have exclusive control over that could be used to help fix these problems, but they refuse to TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY THAT SOME DUMBF*'s elected them to take in running our country!

I wouldn't be proud of being a republican, either. Which is why I never have been.
