"He's just not that into being president"
Garrison Keillor nails it.

Mitigating life's daily grind

Garrison Keillor, Tribune Media Services
Published August 31, 2005

...
I wonder if the president is getting enough coffee. He seems like he's just not that into being president. I don't mean this to be critical in any way, but there is a dimness about the man that suggests a need for caffeine. It is not enough simply to refrain from adultery and tax increases and make the occasional trip to Idaho to announce that we are winning the war in Iraq. It's the French who take the whole month of August off, Mr. President. That's not us. Americans are not idlers and layabouts and feather merchants, we're strivers and pluggers and we welcome adversity, so long as we have coffee. Its bitterness is sweet to us.

Back in olden times, youngsters, back before people walked down the street talking on telephones, we were engaged in the Cold War and had nuclear holocaust to think about, and then the enemy collapsed, which left us feeling oddly bereft, so now we have embraced the War Against Terrorism, which nobody believes in--there is no rush to enlist--and yet the concrete barricades and the platoons of security at the airport do give us a sense of danger, which is satisfying.

2. Every hour that passes that he is AWOL and federal efforts are in anarchy
more and more people will be thinking the same thing about their "President." The Freepers will even be abandoning him by tonight. It is almost as if he wants to see if he can get an approval rating below 20 per cent.

My cats will hate you if I give in to this sudden urge to get a photo of them with little tinfoil hats too.

4. El shrubito hates the job but loves all the trappings
He loves being the center of attention, which is why he is the prefect assistant to the magican neocons who are making America disappear. When he struts for the cameras, I always picture him in a sequin covered leotard and long, sexy gloves. The dope thinks he is important but he is just the smoke & mirrors.

If anyone doubts the importance of good parenting, they need to take a close look at the sick puppy who thinks he's in charge and can decide to take any days off the job he wants to.

5. Garrison Keillor has almost made me wreck my car on several
occasions. I love his radio show but it can be hazardous to one's well being. Gawd he makes me larf.

6. Nope, he isn't. So lets force him to resign and be convicted.
And then go after Cheney and his frauds!

9. Yes we do
Unfortunately he's fictional.

Cindy Sheehan hasn't achieved a meeting with the president during her three-week war protest, but she met a man who plays one on TV. Martin Sheen, who portrays the president on NBC's "The West Wing," visited Sheehan's makeshift campsite Sunday.

"At least you've got the acting president of the United States," Sheen said as the crowd of more than 300 people cheered. "I think you know what I do for a living, but this is what I do to stay alive."

Heh. Only Garrison Keillor could capture the shrub's underwhelming gravitas in such a pithy way.
