Nations have offered to help to the US and they were REFUSED!
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 09:33 AM by ck4829
There was a DU'er yesterday who said that no other countries have offered help.

RW'ers have also asked where the other nations are for us.

READ IT AND WEEP!

"Venezuela has offered their Medical Airlift Command for the evacuation of peoples trapped in these devastated regions; Holland has offered the resources of their Public Works Ministry (and who are the acknowledged World Experts for below sea level water evacuation procedures); Russia has offered over 100,000 temporary living structures, along with Military Personal to assist their American counterparts; Iran has offered 1 Billion US Dollars in immediate assistance and guaranteed 5,000,000 barrels of oil at $35.00 US Dollars; China has offered their Military Rescue Forces (Who are acknowledged as one of the best in the world for rescuing peoples in flood ravaged areas.)"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4524470&mesg_id=4524470

Guess what? All of these requests and other requests to help were denied by the Bush Administration.

60. Someone needs to tell the jerks at FOX "News" who keep hammering that
other nations have not stepped up to help us. they did mention Venezuela but almost like a joke. I understand the jesse Jackson has struck a deal with Chavez to send fuel to hospitals and nursing homes hit by the hurricane. Anyone have links to this story?

4. Well, now, hang on...
If we got half of Iran's military over here helping out while we invaded...afterwards, we could just send the Iranian military that's here to Gitmo II, soon to be established in the Superdome.

We're on to something here, I know it...

5. This would prove we were lied to all our lives!
It would destroy conservative ideology.

Imagine a world where we actually met peoples of other places who meant us no harm and now we cannot be whipped up into a killing frenzy against them!

17. Yep. Conservatives are proud and will let our people die from many things
that are preventable rather than admit they are not the big stud muffins they think they are. Once again, proving their manhood by cutting short the lives of the less fortunate. So easy to 'stand tall' when they are really standing on the broken backs of so many others.

Pigs.

Folks, we need to put 'full scale assault on public awareness' on this issue on our to do list. We need to make damned sure America knows others wanted to help but our 'leaders' refused. MSM sure as hell won't be much help getting that fact out, but we have managed without them on other issues, we can do it again.

LTTE, calls in to radio/tv shows, fliers on cars, blogs, bumper stickers, chat by the water cooler, do your part to make Americans aware the world still cares enough to offer help and the twits making speeches but nothing more refused that help out of vanity.

18. exactly.
Bush&Co. wouldn't want people to get the idea that people in the world help each other out and can work together on things.

Our illusion as the strongest and best country might be shattered if we accepted any help.

We must hate and fight.

All of these countries that we have been taught to demonize are offering to help. I understand that its the nature of the beast in global politics, they offer something in the hopes that they get something in return in the future. But why aren't we accepting the help from these countries? Since we don't have the personnel or equipment on the ground, it would make sense that we swallow some pride and accept some assistance.

The Chinese or Russians aren't going to be a threat to National Security, there is nothing down there left! We certainly could use them and would go a long way in mending some fences in the world. But we are "proud" tough, cowboys here in America.

But I forget that we live in Bush's America, where everyone can just die or drown as long as he looks tough and there are still people chomping at the bit to drink his Kool-Aid.

4/20/2005 Final Report:

$1,030,714,108.34 US were donated by American people to charity for tsunami relief.

The people of Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and Louisiana among other Katrina struck states, will be helped by people of this great nation, also.

Un official Jan Egeland, you do not need to step up to the plate in regards to this natural disaster. We do not want your reputation of dislike for the great United States to get blemished by asking the world for support of these demolished states.

Thank you.

US taxpayer and $$$ contributor to your salary.

My answer:
------------------------------

> $1,030,714,108.34 US were donated by American people to charity for tsunami relief.

Yes. By Democrats.

> The people of Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and Louisiana among other Katrina struck states, will be helped by people of this great nation, also.

They will also be helped by people around the world. I personally know two that lost their house, and will take steps.

> Un official Jan Egeland, you do not need to step up to the plate in regards to this natural disaster. We do not want your reputation of dislike for the great United States to get blemished by asking the world for support of these demolished states.

Leave it to the stingy republicans to pay, now whining so loud about gas prices that it can be heard even over here? Hardly...

BTW.

How LOW is it to use this situation for political sniping, even before the dead people are found and buried?

It takes gunnvor to do this. Where's timmie - this should be up his alley as well.

is this NCO:13788 something to rely on? is it credible? I have no clue how to search this State Dept. The real name of Sorcha Faal is David Booth.

You can google him and find out for yourself if he is credible.

> Holland has offered the resources of their Public Works Ministry

I'm from Holland and this my first post, but I need to set this part straight, because it doesn't make sense. There is no such thing as the "Public Works Ministry". At best it is a very strange description from VROM ( http://international.vrom.nl ) which would translate to Spatial Planning, Housing and Environment.

The problem is that water management is part of Verkeer and Waterstaat (translated: Traffic and Watership or Department of Transport). Evacuations however are always carried out by the military like everywhere else. There are been some breaches in dykes in the past and the military make the temporary closings.

I've checked the sites of those ministeries and there is no mentioning about New Orleans help, so I'm sceptical about the validity of the above report especially with the Iran part.

64. the US turned down the Nederlands?
but they know how to maintain areas below sea level and make them productive cities...they know how to re-build such a city after major flooding.

it takes a lot of FALSE and misplaced pride to turn down the Nederlands in these circumstances.

66. From what I understand this does not come from a reliable source.
I'm trying to find what I can and have no found anything credible yet regarding refusal of aid.
