Reported there were criminals trying to get into the hospital, a nurse stepped outside and was robbed at gunpoint, NATIONAL GUARD WAS THERE EARLIER BUT WAS CALLED TO ANOTHER LOCATION SO HAD TO LEAVE.

made cracks about this being a situation where junkies are attacking the hospital to get their fix.

Wonder if it's just possible that it's sick and injured trying to get medicine or medical care as well. I suppose that I'm being too naive, because as with the 'looters' (according to some), it's all them damn criminals running around down there, don't ya know.

17. I heard a live interview by the (woman) VP of Tulane Univ. Hospital

on the WDSU TV live stream. She was saying that there were fishing boats full of armed men (some wearing sodden mink coats) brandishing guns driving up and down the flooded street around the hospital. The bottom floor of the hospital was flooded with toxic flood water (raw sewage, gas, chemicals, debris and animals...)

She was saying that she as was watching (out the windows of the upper floors) these modern day urban pirates commenced to loot the cars of the hospital staff and that there was nothing that they could do to stop them.

This is anarchy. :scared: The hospital is being totally evacuated from the top of the parking deck because the elevators in the building no longer work to access the helipad on the roof. :(

edit: AAR news @ 1:01 pm: Gangs of armed men breaking into stores and stealing guns. Widespread looting (not the food, drink and Pampers sort of looting ...)

The emergency generators at Charity and University hospitals in downtown New Orleans ran out of fuel and shut down at 8 a.m. today, worsening an already intolerable situation for about 350 patients and more than 1,000 doctors, nurses and evacuees who sought shelter there.

"It's my understanding that the fuel is nearby, it's just a problem of getting to it,'' Smithburg said. "I think the state is as frustrated as we are in findings ways to get it transported just a few blocks.''

The hospitals, which host the only Level 1 trauma center in southeast Louisiana and also serve as teaching hospitals for LSU's medical school, lost power during Katrina and lost use of their main emergency generator due to flooding. Since then, they had been receiving power from a number of smaller generators that have been used to support essential medical equipment.
