Is MSM trying to perpetuate Martial Law of New Orleans? |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 11:52 AM by shance
Why isn't the media trying to calm Americans instead of itstilling more impending 'doom'?
The consistent coverage of armed robbers, looters wandering the streets.
How can they they roam the streets with such ease if they are flooded?
Where did they come up with all the weapons with which to roam the streets?
One post said folks in the media are claiming this is WAR?
Does this not sound familiar?
One would think they are trying to promote an image of Iraq in our own city of New Orleans.

4. What would you have them do? "Don't worry, Be happy?" |
|
The media are reporting what's happening. What makes it hard to swallow is that it's so goddamn awful. This is worse than the San Francisco earthquake in 1906. There is NOTHING comparable in our history. the MSM is doing an admirable job considering the circumstances they're facing. A couple have cracked up on screen. I'd rather have the unvarnished truth than a sugar-coated coverage of this massive disaster...

6. Who is benefitting from promoting situations that instigate fear? |
|
Certainly not you or me. It just promotes feeling more powerless and fearful.

They are creating a meme of hatred of the poor and non-white. More class war ammunition for the Right Wing and Bu$hCo.
Check out this paragraph from AP writer Kevin McGill. This is a direct quote from the article, no editing has been done:
"On New Orleans' Canal Street, dozens of looters ripped open the steel gates on clothing and jewelry stores and grabbed merchandise. In Biloxi, Miss., people picked through casino slot machines for coins and ransacked other businesses. In some cases, the looting was in full view of police and National Guardsmen."
In New Orleans, they are "looters", but in Mississippi, they are "people"... even though they are "ransacking", they are still "people".
I am disgusted by the blatant racism being trumpeted in just about every MSM news outlet. The help isn't getting there, the sandbags never even arrived yesterday, this is a massive tragedy and disaster which is just NOT being addressed in any kind of timely manner by FEMA and the rest of the Feds.... I can only imagine what I would be driven to under such circumstances.
There will be no significant help for the majority of these people once the immediate crisis is over. They own nothing, have nothing, and are just trying to stay alive. There will be no FEMA money for them to recover their lives, as many do not own the places they live in. There will not even be a FEMA crackerbox trailer for them. I fear that this already marginalized part of our society will suffer far, far more as the days and weeks and months go on.
The MSM is whoring for alleged "Law And Order", just like back in the 60s. You know who the law is and you know who must submit to the order. Bu$hCo and its associated Vultures of Fortune are, of course, above the law.

anyway....
Sorry but that 'right to know' stuff is something I take seriously. I still want to know what's happening.

do you work for the MSM? :-)
All kidding aside, I too want to know what is happening, but we also need to understand WHY it is happening. Maybe less talk about "looters" vs. "people", and more talk about HOW and WHY there is little or no response from the Feds on this.
(Oh, but the MSM's masters would not allow that! Must focus on Looters of Color, and treat it all like an episode of "Cops". Higher ratings in flyover land, don't you know...)

7. This may be a good time for it |
|
I realize full well the injustice perpetrated on the down trodden, but if there was ever a time for martial law this is probably it. They don't have to promote an image; it's hell on earth right now. Would you be more open to the idea if some rapes are reported? Old people shot?

9. Grief sells, also it is bad there |
|
people will watch suffering, gawk at ambulances, at horror more so than positive stuff. Also I think many are in shock about this. If the negative shit continues to be covered, turn it off, complain to the stations.

15. I agree. I'm not queen of the universe yet though. |
|
cooperation, generosity should be covered, not "oh my god did you see that looter!!!!!!!!!!!" stuff. People need help, people help each other, it is real it is possible it is happening and it should be covered.
