you know that george could put on a price freeze |
|
on the price of oil.....i know, now i`m delusional. i remember when kennedy "jawboned" the steel companies and nixon put on wage and price controls. there were problems but this time it really is needed. i think the oil companies can afford to cut a liitle off the billions of profits for a few months....

1. The only reason Pres. Pussy is opening the reserves to make sure |
|
the refineries in Louisiana don't have to suffer any dips in profit.
tapping the oil reserves is just another give away to AWOL Bush's uber-rich oil buddies.

2. He could put a freeze on the price of Gas |
|
but that wouldn't help. It wouldn't change the international price of oil and if the US oil companies refused to pay that price because it became unprofitable due to the price freeze, the supply would go elsewhere (China, India, Europe etc) and stations would simply run out of gas.

3. We need drastic action NOW |
|
price controls, serious investigations into oil company profits or gas rationing and most importantly, long term measures to back up our short term measures. Long term action is no longer enough IMO. We need dramatic action ST & LT or else motorized transportation will become a thing only for rich people and I don't want 95% of us living beyond the Thunderdome.

4. Ah. You want to see tankers turn around mid-ocean. |
|
I know I sound like a broken record, but here it is again: oil is a fungible, transportable commodity that sells on the global market, and the US has to import two-thirds of what it uses.
Bush was wise to open the SPR to provide a stop-gap supply, due to the problems Katrina created down where much of that oil comes ashore. But if you want those tankers to change their course, just have Bush announce that for the foreseeable future, the US will not pay as much for that oil as Europe or China.
