Paint Jobs on National Guard Vehicles |
|
**Disclaimer: This is second hand information, may or may not have merit**
I just heard from a client in Baton Rouge, who claimed to have seen or at least heard of military trucks and carriers getting a woodland camo pattern sprayed on over top of the desert sand pattern. The reason why I give him creedence, I haven't spoke with him previously and he has no idea about my politics. He was venting about the lack of response when this subject came up.
This is interesting, because the National Guard base near my area, when it has equipment in, it is all painted in desert motif. I hate to be a tin-foil hat type of guy, but it does make my radar go off. Were they painting these things so that people weren't reminded that other equipment and personnel were in Iraq?
I guess I am just a bit cynical, but it does give some food for thought.

1. well, that makes sense |
|
Of course we need to further delay the dispatch of these crucial vehicles in order to give them a paint job.
Just one fuckup after another...

A real tinfoiler would be worried that they're being camo'd so they'd be better able to sneak up on looters and stragglers to round them up and send them to the prison camps

10. Naw. With Katrina wiping out the gulf coast oil facilities, we are |
|
going to be more dependent on Venezuela.
There are no deserts in Venezuela.

I don't think the color of the vehicle is much of a big deal. Much of the equipment in Iraq stays there - just the people swap out.

It didn't make much sense, given whats going on, but I thought I would share the thoughts of one person down there that claims this is what was going on.
Remember, I put a disclaimer at the beginning.

All tactical vehichles are painted in camo. Wether it be woodland or desert, they are all painted.

9. Why assume these trucks are to be used in that fashion? |
|
This is probably YEAR END money. See, the FY ends on SEP 30 for the government, so if you, as a resource manager, have any money left in the kitty, you spend it as quick as you can (your subordinate units make up wish lists, and you cut the cloth according to the measure) so they don't take it back.
The contract was probably cut two months ago...

6. This equipment was probably slated to be deployed in Iraq within the |
|
next couple of weeks. And yes, it would remind people where the rest of the equipment is. Interesting that instead of rushing it to help people they are doing a paint job first. Criminal, actually.

11. Hmmm - Isn't Venezula a country with a bit more of a "tropical - jungle" |
|
motif? I realize they have sandy beaches in South America, but don't they need those colors to blend in in a "rain forest" kinda way?
