Priceless moment on WDSU...
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 02:50 PM by Junkdrawer
A couple of TV announcers trying to show "disgusting" looters in front of the Winn-Dixie. One says "and they're using those inflatable rafts to transport their stolen goods" when they pan and see a couple of people transporting a sick, elderly woman on a raft.

Then they try to say "and they're using those orange crates to transport"...when a couple of 2 and 3 yr. old kids emerge from the orange crates.

You could almost see the dawning awareness: PEOPLE WITH NO NEWS, WATER, FOOD, MEDICAL HELP, OR HOMES were simply, and I might say, relatively peacefully, trying to do what they could to survive.

In the end, all they could say was "This is a tragic set of circumstances we are witnessing here."

1. This is heartbreaking situation. But those journalists are learning s/t
That the mainstream media's script is not how it really is.

4. The only thing these people know for sure is
that no one has come to help them and no one is likely to come anytime soon.

Bushit will arrive there on Friday to take a look see..... Maybe he will be met with boos and people will tell him to get the hell out of town..... Or maybe one of these so called liberal news persons will ask Bushit, "mr president in august of 2001 when you were getting heat for taking a long vacation, and you were quoted as saying".... " you do not have to be in Washington to do work. Who said you had to stay in washington to work. We can conference call and do all sorts of things here". Then the reporter should wait and then follow up with," Then why was it so important that you cut your vacation by 2 days to go back to Washington".....

Hell anyone with commom sense knows what bushit is doing... Got's to have that compassion shown all over the screen...Hell maybe he will stand with a megaphone on a heap of rubble that once was a house where 3 or 4 were drown, and shout, " We will hunt down those responsible for this"... then he will go on a tangent and say, " Dead or alive, we will bring them to justice"...Then he will get all compassionate and tell everyone, " Whomever is responsible and they want to do this again, then bring em on".....

Yes, bushit in his finest moment..... and quoting now.... "Personally, I think you're a fucking idiot".

6. It's amazing that at a time like this corporate media still imagines its
job as being to protect the interests of capital.

9. We'll they're better off using frightened, voice only accounts...
because much of the unedited video seems to defy simple moralizing.

8. A pampered elite media is learning that survival is a priority
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 02:36 PM by Pithy Cherub
for people who have NOTHING! A complete breakdown in civilization in a crisis is not new, it should be expected. Does no one remeber what happened in Baghdad, the 60's, ancient Rome, during the plague, after the 1905 SF earthquake. Much of the media had no concept of poverty in the most powerful nation on Earth!

The best of humanity is coming out in much greater proportion than the worst. That is what gives us hope and the will to survive life's worst moments. The people were doing what they HAD to survive TODAY -
Live for today, for tomorrow is not promised is something my Dad taught me years ago.

13. It would appear that has already happened.
Reports of well-armed gangs moving from gun stores or pawn shops where they get guns to pharmacies. Who's going to stop them except military?

The dog and pony show the Feds trotted out a little while ago in their press conference was so ridiculous I actually LAUGHED. The military to be used (no one even said the words "martial law") ONLY as an EXTREME Last Resort to subdue looters and violence in the streets. Civil order is the responsibility of local police and the National Guard, they said repeatedly, and ONLY THE PRESIDENT HIMSELF can release active duty troops to serve in a capacity of restoring and keeping order.

Hello? So does it appear that the local police and NG have things well in hand right now?

Last night the lack of power left New Orleans and lots of other places to get through a very dark night and with no police showing up anywhere. Those who have no respect for the law anyway obviously got the message that they were not going to be stopped from looting and burglarizing and robbing -- dare I say "pillaging"? -- by local cops or NG soldiers. I think tonight, before help from the Feds arrives, is going to be an extremely dark night indeed in the heart of New Orleans....

Then again, having Shrub&Co declare martial law is something that makes me reeeeelly nervous......................

12. LOL That's awesome...
I stopped watching the WDSU coverage because the one woman seemed so uptight she was giving me a headache with everything she didn't 'approve' of... I hope that this instance does make these reporters think about what they are assuming is happening... I'm not condoning violence against the police or other people, but some of these people haven't had fresh water for 3 days. The temps down there are in the high/mid 90's... There are going to be a lot of dehydrated, very sick people in New Orleans soon...

14. I really can't tell how bad the looting is...
...because the last itme I checked CNN (last night), they showed the same four or five clips over and over and over and over and over AND OVER!

So would Rumsfeld have been right about looting here?

Later they had some reporter confronting people who were taking clothes and the reporter was asking "but it's wrong, why are you doing this?".

21. there are going to be people lying dead on their rooftops or drowning
in the water trying to get away because they can't go on more than a couple more days without water. THis is the biggest catastrophe I've ever witnessed.

22. did you catch the anncr's names?
they deserve personal FU notes.

What the fcuk would YOU do if you were stranded in a flood with no home, food, water or shelter?

Yeah - I'd go in and get some provisions from the Winn Dixie too. You'd probably push me down trying to get in there first.

Not looting: Surviving.

Buttballs.
