Are governors in charge of their National Guard units? |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 02:54 PM by paineinthearse
Have the National Guard troops stationed in Iraq been federalized, or are they under the command of their various states' governors?
Under what authority were they called up and shipped out of state?
It's time for the governors, especially the Dems, to say ENOUGH and order their units home and/or to the gulf coast.

Federalized. Those ar ethe ones who are now in Iraq.
As far as I know, one state Gov. must ask for help from any other state, and that state's Gov. will decide to deploy or not.

Settled when President Eisenhower federalized Arkansas National Guard against the will of the Governor over the Little Rock Nine. The National Guard serves first and primarily at the will of the President, and secondarily at the will of the governor.
Really screws the whole "militia is the national guard" argument that the gun grabbers use.
