This is the worst disaster this country has seen so far, but someone must |
|
say that all of this was predicted by many, many people. Nothing that was happened in NO was not predicted before and for many years.
We know what hurricans do, and we know that the city of NO is below sea level. But nothing....NOTHING...was done about it except to build levies. Levies are fine, but what happens when the storm surge is higher than the levies? Just what hasd happened in NO.
Like americans everywhere the folks in charge there sat back fat, dumb, and happy behind their levies and dared nature to prove them wrong. Well nature spoke last, and nature spoke loudest.
I guess we'll never learn. Wishfull thinking is about the best we can do as Americans, huh?

the top 1% got a tax cut and a big part of the National Guard was sent off to war based on lies and for corporate profit.

2. Nobody wants to hear "doom and gloom" or "fearmongering". |

Nope, as long as you lie to Americans nicely, they'll bite.

Just like the predictions of more and more powerful hurricanes due to global climate change have been dismissed as tree-hugging crazy talk.

4. The American people don't like to hear hard truths. |
|
In 1984, Walter Mondale ran against Ronald Reagan. He looked into the camera at one point during a debate and said, "He won't tell you he'll raise your taxes, but I will." He thought by being hinest with the American public, he'd score some points. We all know who won, and wasn't Mondale.
This morning, I was in a doctor's office, and know aht everyone around me was talking about? (It wasn't NO or Katrina.) It was the price of gas. I tired telling one guy why it was so high, and he about told me he didn't care why, he just wanted to be able to drive his SUV without "taking out a loan" to fill the tank.
Americans, honest to God, do not want to know.
