Attn. ALL LA, Miss., and AL DUer's: Post any small town News you know!
For the second day in a row, the National media has let the Hurricane victims down by NOT covering any Gulf Coast Small Town News, at least that is what several callers to NPR's "Talk of the Nation" said again today.

If you have any Confirmed News about your Hurricane effected Louisiana,
Mississippi, Alabama small town that you KNOW for sure is true, please post it. That way, your neighbors, who are desperately trying to find out what's happened to their town or neighborhood, who DO have internet access might find your info via a Google or other web search.

Stay Safe All!

1. Saucier, MS area (north of Gulfport, along Highway 53
My parents reached me from there by cell phone last night. The area is fine. My parents live on a hill, and even their sheds survived. There was flooding in the low places, as usual. Not too much damage. My sister's trailer just off Old Highway 49 survived with no damage. This is about seven to ten miles inland.

There is no power, but my sister has been able to drive around a bit, so the roads are accessible. Probably they have paths cut through with chainsaws, as usual. Phone and water is out. Anyone on a well is out. Apparently there is a cell phone tower somewhere functioning, though I have not been able to call them yet. They've called me, only, and apparently it took dozens of tries to actually get through. Bad connection. But still, a great sound to hear.

2. Franklin, Jeanerette, Morgan City, LA all okay with
sugar cane blown down, but no major damage that I saw this morning driving through.

Further east, I did not go

I'm extremely worried about St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes. They are south of N.O. and got the wrath of the storm with no levees to speak of and extreme exposure to the gulf.

Also, anyone know about Grand Isle or Fourchon?

Franklinton in Washington Parish -- I have heard that all are OK through my cousin, whose sister drove in to town from Amite to check on them. Lots of downed trees, some house damage.

...reporters at the VA Retirement Home, and have shown a lot of video from Gulfport and Biloxi.

Also, some video here: <http://www.weather.com/>

On Edit: Just saw on The Weather Channel they showed Gulfport, down near one of the Casinos, it looks like the pictures of Hiroshima after they dropped the bomb.

6. I just talked to my husband in Biloxi
He's in one of the Bama Guard units that were sent there. He said no power, no water, no phones, cell works intermittently. That's all I got--the phone died  I'm hoping he'll be able to get thru again later.
