I had 2 cats when I lived in NOLA my EX left them with a neighbor
when he went on vacation 2 weeks ago.

What if my kitties drowned!!! HE can't contact the neighbor. What if the neighbor didn't leave town. What if the neighbor died with his pets and my cats!!! What if they aren't dead but they are hungry and thirsty no water or food.

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

1. I hope for you that they are all all right.
Maybe the neighbor evacuated and took the cats.

2. this sounds remarkably like a friend of mine
he went on vacation a couple of weeks ago, and now he is frantic with worry about his cats, whom he left with a neighbor.

I know in the whole scheme of things, those cats are not the worst loss of life, but I can't help feeling horrible about them.

5. nope....
a coincidence, then. I haven't been able to stop thinking about him and his cats. I'm pretty sure they were all of the family he had left.

7. Seriously, don't cat threads belong in the Lounge?
Not to dimish whatever you might be feeling about your ex's cats, but PEOPLE are dying and suffering left and right. I have pets too, and I would be upset if I were in your shoes, but I hope I'd be able to keep things in a little clearer perspective. Oy gevalt.

8. Thank you..
I didn't want to be the insensitive one but I have a friend missing in NO and people are worried about their pets?????? This isn't the first "pet" thread, and to be honest if I see another one I'm going to have to break from DU for a few days while people get their priorities straight...

9. I hope your kitties are ok
For some people their pets are like their families and not to seem insensitive but pets are used to help the quality of life for many elders so please don't discount people concerned with their pets. The person worried about their pet has done more than their fair share to help many prior to this disaster and believe it or not some people have the capacity to have compassion for many things at the same time. My thoughts and prayers for all human life and my compassion also for the innocent animals that are suffering.

10. Some of us are serious when we say we consider them our family
Sorry if that bugs you. Not saying you have to - just saying WE do.

Most of us have enough compassion and sorrow to mourn, worry about and love both our human animal family members and our non-human animal family members.

Some of us have enough compassion for all of the innocent and affected. I know this blows a few minds, but it's true. You actually can care about the animals, it DOES NOT mean that you care about the people less.

Thanks for dumping on someone in grief though. Way to flaunt those progressive values.

Shamelessly trolling for sympathy over a couple of cats that might or might not be dead in General Discussion is really stretching it thin. Give me a friggin' break. Kitty sympathy hugs belong in the Lounge.

My comments have nothing to do with not having a heart...it's called common fucking sense.

BTW, MEMO TO VEGISTAN: Progressive values don't neccesitate checking your common sense at the door.

11. Oh god. I've been tossing at night with images of both people and
animals in my head.

I hope they're all right. This is such a nightmare. Wish I could say something that would help.
