Come On, It's New Orleans
The city with more life in it than any other American City. The city made up of a wonderful melting pot of people and traditions. Americans may be sad, they may be scared, and yes they may be hurting but watch this city come back as the Jewel of the South once again. Forget the politics, forget the divisions, these people are tough, after all they gave us cajun cooking and drinks bigger than your head called Hurricanes.

We may be in shock right now but come February this city will have parades even if the floats have to really float. College coeds will grovel in the streets for plastic beads, and yes breasts will be bared. This city will bounce back. In the days and weeks to come you will see more and more citizens do what the government wasn't prepared to do, rebuild. Your pain and suffering for these people will soon be replaced with pride at their resilience and willingness to move forward.

I myself cannot comprehend a February without the annual Bare'ing of the Breast, I just cannot do it.

Live on New Orleans,
Michael Harris

As I wrote last night:

I've seen firsthand that New Orleansians are tough. They don't take themselves too seriously, but when push comes to shove they get things done.

There will be devastation; there will be casualties...
...but there will be a New Orleans in the morning.

And a hell of a party in February.

NOLA's not going anywhere. It WILL bounce back and be better than ever. We mustn't let the darkness and hopelessness cloud over optimism and common sense. The people of New Orleans will not go silently and permanantely abandon or move their city - no way in hell!

They're gonna beat this. It won't be a pleasant process, but come February, the streets will again be flooded - this time with revelers holding their glasses high and screaming in one voice, "WE OWNED YOU, KATRINA!"

NOLA will always live.

4. Thanks!!!
We get enough doom and gloom from the media and now here on DU. I've been through many of these storms and I promise there are some good heart-warming stories out there to report. I expect we are going to see these people rise up and take control of the situation and you can bet they are not in the streets debating red/blue issues.

6. New Orleans is among the top 5 cities in the world that I have
seen. Paris is up there and Prague and Charleston (S.C.) Rome or Florence rounds out my top 5. New Orleans is in a league all its own--more fun can be found in N.O. than anywhere...and its on tap 24/7. The people are stong and brave; I am confident they will come out on top. I heard a man interviewed on NPR around 3ish and he was in the French Quarter and he said the water had barely been seen there.
