Is this the highest gas prices have ever been... |
|
... when adjusted for inflation?
I remember a few years ago when the gas prices went above $1.75 and everyone was complaining the Repuke line was "Well if you think our gas is expensive you should go to Europe. They are paying upwards of $3.00 a gallon."
Well guess what, for their $3.00 a gallon they get universal health care. What do we get?

The highest ever, when adjusted for inflation, was an $85 barrel of oil and a $3.15 gallon of gas, in 1982 (or 83. Can't recall)

1979-80 was still a bit higher when adjusted for inflation (these days Republicans love to throw out that Jimmy Carter bashing talking point for old times sake).
If we get to $90 oil then I think we will officially be there.

Yes It Is ---- And Fuck Inflation |

The inflation comparison is only valid if incomes have kept up with the same inflation index, and they certainly have not. In fact real wages have been deflating in this country while real prices have been inflating.

Since wages have stagnated for more than 20 years while prices have increased, we're already paying FAR more for gas (along with nearly everything else) than any previous generation.

How much do you want to bet that Greenspan finds a microphone somewhere in the near future and tells us again that this isn't inflation?

I remember paying $1.10 in 200 and thinking it was ridiculous. Today, I saw a gas station in my home town selling reg. unleaded for $3.39.
