I'm waiting to talk to someone further up the food chain. Costco has the resources to hire a plane and fly bottled water in. They could even drop flats of it on the overpass where people are stranded.

I can't sit here and read this one more minute without trying to do something, and I am hoping against hope I can find someone who can write a) a big check to rent a plane, and b) can figure out how to land and transport water in less than 24 hours.

Who else would have resources to get water to New Orleans, Biloxi and Gulfport? Call 'em. The worst thing they can say is "no".

Julie

4. Why aren't there airplanes and helicopters
dropping water NOW?

What is going on?

The news is showing shots of New Orleans and there seems to be no air traffic at all.

I am not understanding this....

6. Okay, I just talked to Costco again.
They are donating water and other necessities. They've been working on it since yesterday. Their efforts, according to their charity donations person at Corporate in Issaquah, WA, should be "up and running" in the next two hours. Their efforts are being coordinated through the Red Cross.

Thank you, Costco, and let's hope the stuff gets there SOON.

16. I really think I love them ...
I was there for the 1st time on Monday. I normally fear and loathe such places (I avoid malls altogether), but I had a great experience and bought a membership. I attribute it to their super "blue" status and philosophy.

I wonder what Wal-Mart is doing ... they are their neighbors, unlike Costco.

10. I met with Budweiser today and they are shipping cans of water
immediately. They have the ability to can water very quickly, so they immediately mobilized one of their bottling(canning) facilities.

14. Scout, there's also a Budweiser plant in Cindy Sheehan's home town
of Vacaville, California. Is there anybody here at DU who knows her and might be willing to ask her to make a phone call?

15. Thank you, Scout
I'm so glad that you coordinated this! Good for you!

If each of us asked, perhaps, in any small way, we could help.

I'm thrilled to hear that those who need clean and safe drinking water so desperately will be getting it.

Julie

p.s. Not a beer fan, but I can safely say that we'll be buying some Budweiser this weekend...
