Mr. President: Bring Home the Southern Guardsmen Tonight

September 1, 2005

Dear Mr. President,

I'm a lifelong Democrat and you're a Republican on the ropes, but for the good of the country I will give you a little advice. If you do not want to see your already shrinking Presidency disintegrate into political nothingness, you will get every National Guardsman from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama on the first thing smoking out of Baghdad. They joined the Guard with this very sort of catastrophe in mind, not to dodge IEDs in some far-off desert.

The righteous white Southerner is all that is left of your base and if you do not bring their boys home on the double I promise you they will join our side, oppose this reckless war, and oppose you.

That's clear enough. Can we help spread it, DU?

Peace.

3. RudePundit: "Hurricane Katrina offers the ultimate exit strategy from Iraq
8/31/2005

The Hurricane Exit Strategy:

At some point here, some wise, ambitious, and none-too-cynical member of Congress, perhaps Chuck Hagel, perhaps Russ Feingold, needs to say the obvious: Hurricane Katrina offers the ultimate exit strategy from Iraq. What other excuse need there be to pull vast numbers of troops and billions of dollars out of our overseas failure?

The patently absurd waste of billions of dollars will be brought to light by the suffering along the Gulf Coast. A couple of months from now, whenever some worthless, stupid right-wing fuck puppet declares that the U.S. has built schools in Basra, it'll simply be a reminder of how much faster things could have been done in Biloxi if all those funds and all that personnel were readily available.

Instead, a brave politician can step forth and offer a resolution about the magnitude of the disaster being nearly unprecedented in U.S. history and that a nation needs to take care of its own before it secures another country. (If he/she wants, he/she can even say that it's a homeland security measure because, with all the attention being paid to Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana, the country is wide open to attack.)

The exit strategy works on so many levels: it's actually a graceful way to pull out of Iraq. We're not cuttin' and runnin'. We need the troops back home. And even bloated hogfuckers in Congress and the Administration, who wanna keep the government largesse in the pockets of Halliburton and other companies, can get on board. Fuck, get private contractors to take care of various and sundry shit along the way. Move the whole goddamn "rebuilding" operation to the southeast U.S. They need bridges, infrastructure, water, food, shelter.

7. BRING THE NATIONAL GUARD HOME IMMEDIATELY
Urge organizations to run full page adverts by Friday in all the major newspapers -- BRING THE NATIONAL GUARD HOME IMMEDIATELY.

In fact, the damn newspapers should run the adverts at NO COST.

Get it on the TeeVee ....

8. Yet another major reason to get the National Guard back to the USA
.... very quickly:

This is from an oil industry insider I consider quite credible. She was definitely right about everything in her last post. If she's right about this one, we may finally start to get a true picture of what's going on. All below the fold.
There's more... (704 words) | Comments (50) | Permalink

There are MANY production platforms missing (as in not visible from the air). This means they have been totally lost. I am talking about 10's of platforms, not single digit numbers. Each platform can have from 4 to 100+ wells on it. Most larger ones have 20-30 wells in this area, with numerous caisson wells. They are on their sides, on the bottom of the gulf - they will likely be left as reef material, provided we can get permission. MMS regulations require us to plug each of the wells that were on these platforms - HUGE cost now, as the platforms are gone... Hopefully, MMS will grant `abandon in place' status for these wiped out structures.

We are going to need every resource we are wasting in Iraq, here. All our troops; all their gear - back in the USA asap.

We need a change of leadership immediately.

We need to go to the UN, commit to bringing our war criminals to justice and request that all member Nations join to enable the Iraqi citizenry to begin to repair their country with as little additional loss of life and destruction of property as possible. That will happen if they know we mean it and are not just removing our troops but relinquishing control of Iraq's resources (oil AND water) and removing our Blackwater and other mercenaries.

I urge Senator Byrd and Senator Hagel to join and go to the White House tonight and request Bush and Cheney's resignation as a way to get the process started.

Peace.

11. Good idea......we need them here to help rebuild our country.
a good portion of U.S. infrastructure was blown away by Katrina. We need our National Guard to assist in clearing street and help rebuild our communities, schools, water, sewer & electric plants so our citizens have a chance at reclaiming some measure of their lives.
Without the help of the National Guard that lives in these communities. The chance to reclaim the hopes & dreams of common hard working Americans will have been for naught, w/o their assistance.

12. The "ribbon" on the back of my car says "Bring the Troops Home Now!"
That goes double for the Guard and Reservists. They never signed on for this. I've often thought that this means that we've lost our first responders. And the sad thing is that I heard on the news that the local Louisiana Guard is due home soon from Iraq, but what will they have to return to?! Count me in...:-(

14. "Bring the National Guard home. Immediately."
Begin withdrawing troops and equipment in Iraq, immediately.

Urge TrueMajority, the DNC, MoveOn, Michael Moore, etc to push for ads making the demand.

Ask the New York Times, LA Times, Washington Post, etc. to donate full page ads making the demand.

Peace.
