We have had a disaster in New Orleans-any countries heard?
When I see all the damage that is in New Orleans, I think of other countries that have had earthquakes, floods etc-and the first thing that we see is America sending supplies, food, medicines and help---
Now I know it has only been a couple of days, but where is the humanitarian offers for us-does the world think we are so mighty that we dont need any help? Makes you wonder - doesnt it?

country in the world right now. Of course the people are the ones who pay.

6. You're inundated with offers of help
Apparently rightwing radio types neglect to mention that part.

Canadian, Russian, Venezuelan and French offers alone have been posted on here...days ago.

9. Der Spiegel had a good story on this:
http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/

Essentially, saying the U.S. is capable of taking care of itself -- tsunami-devastated Sri Lanka, on the other hand, is not. Difference between third-world country and colossal superpower.

We are the wealthiest country on the planet. We are expected to help whenever and wherever we can. Expecting the same from the poorest countries in the the world is silly.

16. You might want to ask your media why they are not telling you
that countries ARE offering assistance. It seems either the media or, more likely, your government doesn't want you to know that assistance has been offered.

17. ENOUGH of this bullshit RW talking point...
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 05:06 PM by jim3775
I am sick of seeing this question over and over, there are MANY countries offering help.

from the Globe and Mail

In Canada, Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan said Ottawa has contacted U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and advised him that Ottawa stands ready to provide assistance if needed. She scheduled a news conference for Wednesday. That could mean sending emergency medical supplies and equipment to hospitals in the midst of the disaster.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Paul Martin offered Canada's condolences and said he had put Ms. McLellan in charge of Canada's disaster assistance response.

" I know that she and a number of her Cabinet colleagues have been in touch with their American counterparts and have begun to determine what assistance Canada can offer. We have made it clear that we are prepared to offer any and all possible assistance, and we will continue to work closely with our neighbours as they deal with this terrible event."

we have so many rich people who could help if they were willing
why do we need small, poor countries to help - we are bigger and richer and we have all this military spread all over the world - all we have to do is bring them here -

if we weren't wasting money on so many WMD and personnel all over the world - we would have the help we need right here

Too bad you are too busy repeating right wing talking points and you can't get informed before posting things like this.

26. Add Holland to the list
They have lots of experience as their country is below sea level just like New Orleans.

I expect Bush to turn down their help because it would be based on facts, rather than faith. Bush decided to defend New Orleans with prayer so he could spend the money that had been allocated to repairing the New Orleans levees in Iraq.

And I also expect Bush to turn it down, more because of pride. How could he, the one and only leader of the free world by God's will, accept help from anyone else?

It says we are no longer capable of meeting our own needs.

Which we aren't. Bush has reduced us to a third world nation.

23. No. I wonder why the media isn't reporting the countries who are offering
help. Venezuela, Germany, Russia and others HAVE offered and it isn't being reported.

Makes you wonder why the corporate media is keeping quiet about it - doesn't it?

Maybe BushInc doesn't want the truth to come out, as usual.

24. Bush would let NOLA sink to the earth's core before accepting French aid.
It's the dirty Saudi money he likes to grab with both hands, and of course that's not marked for "peon aid".

I think NOLA is about to find out just how "hard" the "work" Bush gives them is going to be.

that the world wasn't offering us (which is itself blatantly FALSE), what should it make us wonder about?

We haven't exactly done a lot to win other countries' respect. After the tsunami hit, the aid package offered by the administration was miniscule.

For example, we've been offered aid by Germay, Canada, Venezuela, and Russia. This is pretty generous of them, considering the US, especially with Venezuela, has treated their government like crap.

36. Still waiting for USA to respond!
Maybe when the Chimp-in-Charge can break away from his vacation and golfing he'll weigh-in on our country's latest disaster. Somewhere in his "Being President for Dummies" book, he must have had someone read to him that a prezdent waits at least 3 days to get into the picture (to make a royal entrance?). His MO (or Rove's "do whatever you want and I'll spin it into gold" MO) is to golf while the world is burning. Just goes to prove the old adage: Those who refuse to see Farenheit 9/11 are doomed to repeat it.
