Water and food can come down or up the river. Evacuation can happen from the river. Where is the drinking water? Where is the food? Where are the cruse ships..any ships from up river? The navy should have been there by now.

The delay is inexcusable.

3. The Navy ships are in the Persian Gulf.
But that is no excuse they should have positioned them ready for something like this.

4. Funding for FEMA was cut by Bush.
That would help explain a lot.

5. An aircraft carrier was sent after the tsunami because
it can generate a very large amount of water per day.

I do not know how many they could get there fast...

6. This is the straw that broke the camels back
for my dad, who is, sadly, a repug. He is pissed to (finally) find out that half of the Nat'l Guard (in LA and everywhere else just about) is in Iraq and not at home to help out. A family friend was shipped out again with the Marines on Monday. He said if he gets killed, he'll be furious (and deeply grieved of course).

8. The ships are huge. They can hold thousands each. But I agree that Bush
should have been more proactive on this. There was advanced warning of this assault by Katrina. I think this is where we blame Katrina for not waiting until after Bush's vacation to slam into the coast. Damn Her! She's Unamerican! Why does Katrina hate America?

9. They should deploy an LST with LVT's and plenty of supplies.
Amphibious personnel/cargo vehicles would be the most useful -- go anywhere and plenty of cargo capacity. If they carried MRE's, bottled water, baby food and diapers, they'd be doing far more good than some stand-off warship.
