Question: Has anyone gotten strange calls where the caller
hangs up and a recording says, "If you wish the caller to call back, dial 1." When my husband dialed the "1", the recording said that our service didn't have the capacity to handle the call. (We don't have long distance on our service, which is Verizon.

This call was from Baton Rouge, LA. I don't know anyone there, but I thought maybe someone who had gone there and knows me might need something. I was on the computer at the time and AOL alert came up with the number, which I didn't keep because I clicked on "sign off and answer". This is peculiar. Just wondering is this is a scam.

1. I haven't gotten a call like that, but
I would imagine it is a scam. It's terrible how tragedies like this bring the scammers out of the woodwork. Just to be on the safe side, maybe if you called your phone company and asked someone there they might be able to tell you if it was some sort of collect call trying to come through or something. I'd do it just to ease my mind.

2. I had a guy calling me up for awhile asking me for
my bank account number, saying he was computer security and he was going to remove my number from the computer. Every time I questioned him as to exactly who he was, the bank, the name of his security company, or even which computer, he couldn't tell me.

I finally reported him to the sheriffs and my bank. I haven't heard from him since. Oh I never did give him my bank account number and you never should give information like this to anyone unless you are requesting customer service.
