Senator Byrd & Hagel. Please go to the White House tomorrow & demand ...
... that Bush and Cheney resign, immediately.

If you need to take some colleagues with you, I suggest Senator Boxer, Senator Warner, & Congressman Conyers.

It's time to take that walk from the Capitol to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Send a Congressional committee to the UN by Friday and request that all member Nations support an effort to enable the citizens of Iraq to stabilize and begin rebuilding their country. Commit to the removal of ALL AMERICAN CITIZENS from Iraq within 3 months and commit to no American interference or attempt to control Iraq's resources.

My fellow Americans we must take charge of our Nation. It is ours.

Not Bush's; not Cheney's; not the corporations they have served exclusively and to the horrorific consequences to each of us and to our Republic.

It is time we demand that the few actual leaders in the Senate and the House of Representatives step forward and begin working with us to rebuild America - a task that will take much time and much sacrifice, if we start now.

Otherwise we may never get the opportunity to do so.

Peace.

3. Because one is the most senior member of the Senate and the other ...
... found the courage to say things to Bush, publicly, that no other member of the Senate has and he happens to also be a Republican.

Warner, McCain, Clinton, Kerry, ... can tag along...

4. McCain? Pfft, forget it
To put it on a more every-day level:

If I was going for a job interview and a man who also wanted the job went to the employers and slandered my war service, said I'd cracked up in a POW camp, said my wife was a wacko pill-popper and then to cap it all racially slurred my child to one of the interviewers. I'd never want to see that man again, and I sure wouldn't suck up to him

12. Asking someone to resign is hardly 'sucking up' .... and, as I clearly ...
.... stated, McCain and the others could 'tag along' -- McCain, in particular, should be itching to tell Bush and Cheney to take a hike, especially after Bush stuck his thumb in the birthday cake.

Peace.

year. In fact during the campaign, Kerry quoted Lugar and Hagel as being negative on how Bush was fighting the war. On other things there would be less agreement - Hagel is pretty conservative and Kerry is a moderate/liberal

I suggested Senator Byrd because he is without a doubt the most knowledgeable Constitution scholar in the Senate and the most senior and I think he would add more than detract.

As to other Democrats, other than Congressman Conyers, I'm not enthusiastic about them being part of the delegation as my OP and other comments indicate.

Thank you for your insights.

30. Actually, I'm thinking a solid strategy is to convince Mrs Nancy Reagan
... to demand both Bush and Cheney resign. Perhaps she could hold a joint press conference and have folk like Ike's son join her.

Then the Senators can march in.

As to 'kid gloves'; I don't think that is even remotely an issue. We need a very large Republican hammer to come down on these guys as hard and swiftly as possible and the Republicans have got to know that they either do it or any resemblance to what they thought the "Republican Party" is, is over.

....since the staff folk answering aren't old enough to remember a walk Goldwater and a few of his colleagues took in August of 1974, I mention that their respective Senator is old enough to remember.

I told each of them that the Nation is in much worse shape now than then and that each Senator needs to make the walk and tell Bush and Cheney to resign -- if not for the Nation then at least for the sake of their Republican party.

.... like Ike's son, and that that was in 2004 -- i.e., long before they all had the data we know have on everything from Plame and Downing Street to the total frigging mindless approach Bush took to a disaster we all saw as probable a week ago -- well, I think, in order for anything much to remain of what they consider the "Republican Party" to not be decimated, they better act, fast and decisively.

At least, I hope that's what they are all saying to one another.

I guarantee one thing, if Mrs Nancy Reagan condemned Bush and the neoconsters for their illegal war on Iraq and their disastrous actions regarding the economic and social fabric of the Republic, that would send Bush and Cheney (and a bunch others) packing.

Maybe what we should all be doing is asking Ron Reagan to ask his mother to do just that -- send the Bush clan and their neoconster fellow war criminals into the street.

Thanks, my friend, for your comments. And, "I believe"!

Her blessed Ronnie was a figure head like Bush - and the same crowd committed crimes under his name. Would she then have the courage to bring them down. Knowing that her husband's reputation likley goes with them.

36. Arianna Huffington: The Fly-over Presidency
The Flyover Presidency of George W. Bush (

by Arianna Huffington on August 31, 2005

The president's 35-minute Air Force One flyover of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama was the perfect metaphor for his entire presidency: detached, disconnected, and disengaged. Preferring to take in America's suffering -- whether caused by the war in Iraq or Hurricane Katrina -- from a distance. In this case, 2,500 feet.

Apparently, the president "sat somberly on a couch on the left hand side of the presidential jumbo jet peering out the window" at the catastrophe below, joined at different times by White House staffers including Karl Rove and Scott McClellan. McClellan later quoted the president as saying, "It's devastating. It's got to be doubly devastating on the ground." Ya think?? Hey, here's an idea, Mr. President: maybe you should, y'know, get off the plane and see for yourself?

<clip>

And, like the president, Chertoff and company came armed with plenty of designed-to-obfuscate numbers. ...... But still no mention of those unavailable Guardsmen or the funds that were taken away from shoring up Lake Pontchartrain and shipped over to Iraq.

More at the link:

Yes, Ms Huffington, I could not agree more with your casualty assessment -- "Those are the blood red elephants floating belly-up in the middle of this deadly disaster ..."

Are you watching, Mrs Reagan? Have you had enough? Are you and 'true Republicans' going to allow this child-king and his fellow neoconster war criminals to annihilate the Republican Party, oh, and, perhaps even more importantly, America?

Any elected member of Congress got what it takes to walk into the Oval Office and tell Bush and Cheney to resign and get out of OUR HOUSE?

49. Randall Robinson: "I was as sure as one can be that he felt nothing ..."
Never more than now have the American people required a President of large and generous spirit to summon from us all a broader and better self. A President who, with unimpeachable integrity and largeness of vision, embraces us all, replete with all our differences and discontents - the newly bereaved, the destitute, and the homeless, as well as the more fortunate amongst us - called forward to make the victims whole again. Reforming us once and for all into one caring, sharing, people. Thus was the bar of Presidential leadership set on Tuesday after Hurricane Katrina. Sadly, the bar is beyond the president’s reach.

Yesterday, alone in his small plastic window, the President viewed the carnage from Air Force One en route from Crawford to Washington. His distance from the pain on the ground was emblematic, I thought, of a larger disability that appears to separate him from the rest of vulnerable humanity.

As I listened to him read his statement at the White House, I was as sure as one can be that he felt nothing, for there was nothing in his statement to evince the shallowest empathy for those whose lives had been changed forever.

We live in a dangerous and hurtful world. We need a leader who knows how to feel, as well as how to express feelings, for living, breathing, beings. Yesterday, the President, both literally and figuratively, flew above a sea of traumatized Americans he had sworn to faithfully serve.

From Faking It and Failing by Randall Robinson on September 1, 2005

Link:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/randall-robinson/faking-it-and-failing_b_6613.html

Mr Robinson, your assessment of the situation is accurate and it is obvious that Bush (and Cheney) are NOT "emotionally and intellectually suited for the Presidency of the most powerful nation on earth."

50. I'm doing way more then that, I'm mailing and railing on every member!!!
I called upon and railed on every congress member to also demand their immediate resignation, and his impeachment!!!!

It is time for impeachment, no questions asked. To rally and riot until every single criminal is removed.

My letter below, related to high crimes and misdemeanors

Dear Congress,

It is high time to begin discussing impeachment and calling on the Bush Administration for their full resignation beginning with President Bush.

As the evidence piles up and the documents below show, we were lied into an illegal war by the President, and Congress was coerced into funding the project so that we could obtain oil and gain back the fossil fuels which we so depend on.

I call upon all congress members to act, and not put this off by beginning with signing the resolution of inquiry. http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/902

In our doctrine called the constitution it outlines that a
1)President and their staff may be impeached if the violations meet the criteria of high crimes and misdemeanors

This would meet the entire requirement, for lying the whole country into a war that was completely for self gain. But not only lying the country and paying congress to go along with that war, but also misplacing all of our national guard forces into Iraq and gutting funding for FEMA which could have prevented the holocaust disasters on the Southern Border from Mississippi to Alabama.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-050831corps-story,1,2364215.story?coll=chi-news-hed&ctrack=1&cset=true

This funding for FEMA and the disaster relief was cut and gutted, by the Bush Administration after Congress attempted to re-enforce the measures. Why did this happen? So we could waste time in a completely illegal war!!!!!!!

And the cost of it all? One hundred thousand and counting citizens dead! And more on the way, which meets the requirement of deriliction of DUTY. Congress must act and immediately seek remedy to the situation by calling for resignations and introducing formal inquiries to impeachment.

No other acceptable turn of action can be prescribed. We went into war over false flag terror and come out with nothing but rising gas prices, and only half of the oil which the war was really about! This will not stand, and we are NEVER going to LET it stand!

Sincerely,
Mark

52. Excellent. I have not stopped and will not stop contacting every person ..
... I can and demand that Bush and Cheney resign and that an interim government be formed until we can hold a national election in 2006 instead of 2008.

We have criminals in the White House and criminals in the Congress and they are killing our people and destroying our Constitution and the infrastructure of our society.

We The People ... now must act to remove these criminals from office and place America on a different path -- one of conservation, preservation, non-imperialism, and sound fiscal and ethical actions.

Peace.
