I'm disgusteed by all Fox viewers......
That's right, even the Dems who watch it because of masochism or whatever. Anyone who watches it helps there ratings and therefor helps the Republicans!

3. After tonight's H & C show. in Philadelphia..
I have to agree with you. I watched 2 minutes and bugged out. The audience was packed with cretins who booed their Dem mayor. It was a disgrace. I've had it and won't be watching again.

And watching a few minutes of O'Richly dance around the issues of the day - Rush, Plame, Arnold - enough is enough.

Thank goodness for progressive radio on the net. Listening to some of the great talk like Mike Malloy, Bernie Ward and Guy James helps me sleep at night and keeps me reg'lar!

7. Censorship?
Not something I think we should be encouraging in our children. Just my opinion of course.

12. Self-control and domestic 'censorship' is essential
...unless you want to have to deal with pervasive censorship, as an adult outside your home.

Kids should have their media exposure controlled by parents, just like controlling access to the internet.

5. keep and eye on the enemy
it's good to keep an eye on the enemy. it's too painful for me to watch at times. but i think it's good to hear what the other side is doing so they can't get away with it.

8. Agreed and the same goes for the website
...which even more directly generates ad revenue.

When I (rarely) post rotten/neocon stories, I leave out the link and just cite the source. If I 'need' to go to Fox or whatever, I'll turn off image-loading in my browser so the ADS don't load.

9. Neh, Only Nielsen Families Affect Ratings
SOME of us have to do intell. Same goes for those who say each click gives DRUDGE ratings: Some techie around here said that only clicks lasting longer than 4 seconds count, so where he's got a story I want to read, I click-in just to get the original source, then get to it from outside his site and never click on advertisers anyway.

10. also, I was just told this by somebody in the biz
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 10:29 PM by HootieMcBoob
if you live in the greater NYC metro area you aren't calculated into the national ratings system at all anyway. He said it was becuse of the population density or something, it scues? the numbers too much. He said if the NYC metro area were included, on certain nights a yankees game or live from lincoln center would end up being one of the highest rated shows in the country.

This is just second hand info...but sounds kinda right maybe....

11. Nielsens don't matter much
Cable companies now have tuner sensor equipment, and even where your car radio is concerned they can tell what (terrestrial) station you're on because your radio emits a carrier wave related to the frequency you're tuned to. This is a regular consumer research service marketed to advertisers (and now your friendly Homeland Security).

"The privacy debate is likely to get more heated with the growing popularity of a wireless technology that detects which stations car radios are tuned to and feeds the information to advertisers via the Web. "

14. Only people taking part of a ratings poll help the ratings.
Unless TIA has gone further than I am aware.

I don't watch Fox, but I am not going to comdemn other people for it.

16. Doubleclick.com et al no longer make any pretense
...about not selling web usage information, whether the cookies have been linked to names or not. Back when the web was still 'scary' to many people, they were quite vocal about their integrity.

That is history, and it's more than just TIA that receives the information.

15. Super.
Another person who's better than me. There has been a lot of that around here lately.

Personally, I occasionally tune in O'Reilly to see what he's NOT talking about. Usually that's more telling than what he is talking about. I've also been monitoring what they're saying about Rush.

We're not a Neilson family, so what the hell difference does it make if I have FoxNews on all day and all night?
