I said, in conversation, a few days ago I wouldn’t be surprised to see widespread fires and building collapses after most of the evacuees were gone.

Let’s start at the beginning…the way I see it. ;)

Sunday, Aug. 28
100,000 people or more needed to be evacuated as they do not have the means to get out of the city on their own.

The post-flood Superdome evacuation started about midnight Wed. night (60 hours ago) and only 15,000-20,000 have been evac’d from there (5,000 remain)

Now, extrapolate that out to 100,000 people and they would have had to have started the evacuation sometime back around the middle of August (there was no Katrina back then.)

Also, I’ve read posts on other boards (like nola and wwltv) of people in that area discussing this topic and, in some districts, the keys are locked in a safe and that most of the city employees were already ordered out.

The NOLA emergency plan doesn’t include public transportation out of the city, only public transportation to temporary shelters which is exactly what they offered.

And remember, Mayor Nagin was requesting outside assistance to provide security for the process and received little or none. The city, itself, cannot provide security to escort and control 100,000, esp. when they just evacuated 80% of the city.

And, WWL TV is showing video of fires all over the city now (Saks Fifth Avenue, Waterfront, Canal St., chemical plant along the river, homes all over the city, and now a wharf along the river, .)

2. Sadly, it's all too easy to predict. So why aren't the so-called 'experts'

... able to forsee it, too?

Why weren't fire-fighting boats being floated into position DAYS ago? Where the river is too shallow, or the fire too far from the riverbank, why aren't aerial tankers dropping water or chemicals on the fires even as we speak? Or teams of firefighters airlifted in, with miles of hose and pumps to bring water to the flames?

How can I -- someone with ZERO experience in disaster management -- anticipate these things and try to brainstorm solutions... yet the so-called experts are always two, three, four days behind?

It's criminal, it really is.

3. The BIG QUESTION is, "What benefit would this admin. get from it?"

I think I have the answer.

The Propagandist's approval ratings have been tanking to Nixon-Watergate levels and below. Iraq is a major FUBAR and eating up the news and threatening to turn into a theocracy just as the '06 election season kicks into gear.

Rove saw an opportunity to delay assistance unti the Propagandist could arrive in New Orleans and the troops/supplies would show up right as his photo-op occurred, Bush the Savior!

They did it again this morning timing the Conv. Ctr. airlift with the Propagandist's 11am radio address.


But, this is backfiring BIG TIME because people are DYING and America is seeing the delay as, at the least, utter incompetence.

I just can't put my finger on WHY the admin would do this. Did they think * coming in like a Savior would work? Did they really not care about the loss of life and the suffering?


Is it more sinister now in that New Orleans may be destroyed by fire?
