The coming independent "Katrina Commission" timeline |
|
Bill Clinton makes the first call for an independent Katrina Commission.
Here's the anticipated timeline based on the independent 9/11 commission history.
First calls for such a commission -- Sept 2005
Repeatedly declared unnecessary, counterproductive by Bush and White House who lobby behind scenes to kill idea -- 2005-2006
Congress holds committee hearings as whitewash to stem calls for independent commission -- six working days, with generous lunch breaks, spring 2006
Independent Commission finally forced by families of the dead -- 2006
Congressional mandate to independent commission excludes any inquiry into something that can be construed as blame at the political appointee level -- 2006
Commission stalled in its requests for information -- 2007-2008
WH and Admin officials balk at testifying -- 2008
Shocking testimony about documents -- 2009
Commission issues report telling us the f-up was even more comprehensive and far reaching than we first thought -- 2010
Conservatives declare commission, report biased and incomplete --Forever and Ever and Ever

November 2006 ... Unless we run a "Recall by Impeachment" election there will be NOTHING but a whitewash coverup.
The "independent commission" will be fast and furious if Rove is smart. Though he might wait for some howling so they can say ... "see we did what the Democrats wanted and they are still complaining". The thing about Rove is he makes you ASK for what he wants to do, and then he blames it on YOU!!!!
Democrats will be suckers if they call for an investigatory commission. It is a waste of time. In the public's mind that will be perceived as somehow the facts are IN QUESTION. They clearly ARE NOT. Go STRAIGHT to howls for IMPEACHMENT!!!! Than when Rove offers up another "independent commission" we will howl "NOT GOOD ENOUGH" and point out that it is stacked with Bush cronies. Than you keep demanding IMPEACHMENT and make it the whole point of the 2006 election!!!!
Something in me thinks that the Democrats don't have the balls and sense to play "over-the-top" politics when the public's safety is so clearly in jeapordy. This isn't fucking academia. Politics is a stage, and when your on stage you have to cake on the makeup in order to be seen properly. The Republicans do this to serve their cruel, seflish interests of gratification and theocratization. We should do the same to serve the greater good.
