What if Wilson's trip was actually cover for HIS WIFE? She works on WMDs, and his being a former ambassador is excellent cover. Since no one on either side really knows much about her, especially at the time of the trip, isn't this a possibility? Of course no one, even Wilson, can come right out and say this. That would throw a whole new light on this...
I'm just speculating - Is my tin foil wrapped too tight?

It seems doubtful that they'd travel together. Her husband would be the last person you'd want her to travel with if she's under cover. He may have acquired some expertise from knowing something about the work she's doing.
But the real bottom line is not about the personalities involved. So what if it was the weapons expert rather than the diplomacy expert who uncovered the facts concerning the fraudulent uranium story? What matters is the fact they discovered, not who gets the credit.

it seems, given the fact that his wife was an expert agent in the field of WMD, that Wilson was the perfect choice for the assignment.

His position is great cover. Ambassador's wife along for the ride. Gives her access to people as well. "Under cover" does not mean what some people apparently think it means, like James Bond, or undercover narcotics officers.
As I said, I'm merely specualting, but it seems like it's possible, and it would have HUGE implications.

5. She did not accompany Mr. Wilson |

She remained at home with their then one-year-old twins.
I see no need to look for additional complexities to this case. Wilson's credentials for undertaking the trip to Niger stand well enough on their own.

This board encourages speculation and critical thinking, correct?
One year old twins have been left with nannies before. Especially in times of national distress.
We should always look for additional complexities in these times of a lapdog press. Always. I am not questioning Wilson's credentials, and I agree that they stand on their own merit. But it doen's hurt to consider other possibilities.
