I'm starting to think I am too suspicious of people |
|
But finding somewhere to leave these clothes off is starting to become a task at hand. Can't find people at the shelters, the Red Cross doesn't want them, etc. Yesterday I went to the Department of Human Services in my area and asked her where locally is the best place. She started looking through her rolodex, and then she asked what kind of clothes--I told her I had a varied assortment of mens, toddlers and ladies in all sizes. I told her I had about 50-60 pairs of jeans--Levis, Lei, Gap, Old Navy, etc. and some really nice tops. I told her that they were all stylish and I would like to see them go to some teenagers who were in need, because I understand that appearances are so important. Her eyes lit up and she told me to bring them to HER and proceeded to me when SHE would be in the office. She had some people in mind. On her desk, she had some pics of teenagers. Am I just getting to where I don't trust anyone?

my husband called to say looked like some left outside had been gone thru. i giggled, looted, our neigborhood people looted. felt good. it is in a poor neighborhood. just perfect i thought. such an abundance for katrina survivor, yet all the poor we have
husband and oldest son really wants it to go to survivors. my other son and i see hteir abundance and in joy sharing with our neighborhood or others in our community who are without
dont worry who gets them. all can be provided for. we do not lack in contributions. and feel good, knowing it is a gift of love

2. The DHS tends not to know which local nonprofits are doing what... |

as someone who works for a local hunger-relief agency (with the word 'Food' in title, mind you) I get calls all the time from people the DHS referred to us for things like furniture and clothes.
If the Red Cross and Salvation Army won't take them (I image the Salvation Army would) I would check your local newspaper, they may have a section about where donations can be accepted, particularly regarding the hurricane.
Are you in a big city? There may even be a generic referral hotline for people to call for help that would be able to refer you to the right place.
Just some ideas.
on edit: if you want to pm me where you are, I may be able to get some info for you...)
