Is there any possiblity that some of New Orleans might have to be burned?
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 02:31 PM by KoKo01
This has been bothering me since the levee's broke. I just replied on another thread that it may be :tinfoilhat: on my part thinking this...and I hope it is. But, do we need to be prepared emotionally just in case this needs to be done to get rid of the toxins that could be a huge Public Health Hazard?

Could it come to that? How else does one get rid of the toxins that are in these houses and one the streets? And why else would they be so focused on mandatory/forced evacutations?

It's also possible that there's so much oil and gas around that there's a real threat of an uncontrollable fire breaking out and burning large parts of the city...So that could be more the concern than getting rid of the toxins.

Anyone have any info on removing toxins from buildings and streets, yards, etc. What about the cars that are waterlogged...all of it. Is there a chemical way to do it? Clorine Bleach in a fine mist or something?

1. There are already wildfires burning in NOLA
Depending on their range and severity, these fires currently in progress might answer your question.

2. A lot of the older houses have been flooded before
It depends on each house and how much water they got. A lot of places got only a foot or two of water and should be alright, especially if they were build up off the ground.

Of course, BushCo wants everyone to believe there is nothing left and that the best thing to do is mow it all down and start again. It part of the land grab that they are attempting.

3. Most likely,
the areas where the poor and black lived will be determined to be dangerous and thereby destroyed and seized by the gov't. After their hosts' patience and the $2000 debit cards are used up, I reckon these dislocated folks will be forced onto reservations.
I'm sorry to say I can even imagine such a thing, but the Bush crew has caused me to dramatically lower my expectations of humanity from the US go't. And the Dems aren't much better these days (IMHO) alas.

4. I'm hoping maybe there's a way to get the oil and gas out and then
find a way to deal somehow with the contaminated waste and all of that.
I don't trust the Bushies to bring in top notch environmental engineers but wondered if hopefully someone out there is thinking of this.

Engineers familiar with oil and gas spills and health officials familair with other disaster areas who know ways of dealing with this.

I'm hoping it doesn't come to burning it down...and I don't think most Americans could stand for that...but I guess if there's nothing they can do they will accept it. I just hope that there's something that can be done. Even if it's just letting it sit like a Chernoble until the natural bacteria have long enough to work. But, that could take a long, long time. :-(

6. I'm not sure there will be a choice.

I'm surprised (and happy) that the firefighters have kept things under control so far. But if a fire were to break out in the wrong area, whole neighborhoods could be in flames.

A lady and her family didn't want to leave her home. Koppel told her that all the homes were coming down.

9. Did he mean that they would collapse because of water damage, maybe
It's hard to believe that he would say that and it wouldn't be all over the media. Some of the foundations might crumble because they are waterlogged and the soil might shift. Maybe that's what he meant.

10. I'm hoping some DU Enviro's and Scientist/Engineers might have some
in put here on this.

How can the environmental "Toxic Soup" be handled in New Orleans so those folks can get back into their houses and rebuild their city. Or, is it too late and Bushies folks have said: "Torch It" and get Halliburton and Disney in to Recreate "Old New Orleans."

Their thinking would be that this would attract tourists around the world to vist the Disney Museum "What happened with the Great Hurricane of 2005" and there would be rides and exhibits and thrills that Disney could put together showing in a "wind tunnel" what it was like for those who withstood the winds...and then there would be Boat Search and Rescues while the flood waters rise that Parents and Kids would love for the thrill...thinking it was all "educational."

Disney could do a fantastic job with Old New Orleans...the Jazz Museum the photos the sound and the CD sales for the Music.

The Restaurants would THRIVE....the "thrill factor for the tourists would be incredible. Sort of a "Survivor Thrill Show."
