Talking about varied assortment of political stuff. She is one that doesn't like Bush--but no real particular reason. It didn't sink in to her why randomly picking up Muslim men and throwing them in detainment centers was a bad thing--after all, she reasons, we want to make sure we get the terrorists. So...I laid it in terms she could relate to. Her husband is Asian, and her kids are 1/2 Asian. I asked her what she would do if Bush decided we had an Asian boogeyman. Would she feel comfortable if they picked up her husband and kids and held them 3 years without charging them to "make sure we got the terrorists"? She finally understood why this kind of profiling can't happen and why it upsets me. Whew...finally.

1. see - why do people have to be personally touched before they understand |
|
it smacks of extreme selfishness and ignorance. Why don't people look at ALL people as human f***ing beings? Do they not truly understand what DO UNTO OTHERS really means ???

2. It's the 'THEY' Syndrome... |
|
No identification with 'THEY' because 'THEY' are different... not like us. 'THEY' are a different color, a different race, a different religion, a different class. So easy to criminalize, easy to marginalize...
