Applauding The Weather
I'm watching the local morning news in Orlando while reading the local newspaper and the weatherman is discussing Ophelia. Based on the latest information he said he believes the cold fronts we get in September will eventually take it out to sea... This is while I am reading in the newspaper that the storm might hit Florida... Since the television reporting is more up to date I find myself applauding with no one in the room to hear me....

I hate trying to reason with the hurricane season...

1. And
"I hate trying to reason with the hurricane season..."

Trying To Reason With The Hurricane Season is a great song by Jimmy Buffett

Squalls out on the gulf stream
Big storm?s comin? soon
I passed out in my hammock
And God I slept ?til way past noon
Stood up and tried to focus
I hoped I wouldn?t have to look far
I knew I could use a bloody mary
So I stumbled next door to the bar

Chorus:
And now I must confess, I could use some rest
I can?t run at this pace very long
Yes it?s quite insane, I think it hurts my brain
But it cleans me out and then I can go on

There?s somethin? about this sunday
It?s a most peculiar gray
Strollin? down the avenue that?s known as a1a
Feelin? tired, then I got inspired
I knew that it wouldn?t last long
So all alone I walked back home
Sat on my beach and then I made up this song

Chorus:
And now I must confess, I could use some rest
I can?t run at this pace very long
Yes it?s quite insane, I think it hurts my brain
But then it cleans me out and then I can go on

Well the wind is blowin? harder now
Fifty knots or thereabouts
There?s white caps on the ocean
And I?m watchin? for waterspouts
It?s time to close the shutters
It?s time to go inside
In a week I?ll be in gay paris
That?s a mighty long airplane ride

Chorus:
And now I must confess, I could use some rest
I can?t run at this pace very long
Yes it?s quite insane, I think it hurts my brain
But it cleans me out and then I can go on

Coda:
Yes it cleans me out and then I can go on

2. You could always do like we did
Instead of reasoning with hurricanes, get yourself a bonafide hurricane repellent like us. Ours is in the form of a piece of plywood we never got around to cutting and fitting to the last window. It's been parked in the living room against the couch since May. Normally I would not have let it stay there a week, but since it's been there every hurricane has stayed away from central fl. Call me superstitious, but I won't let hubby move it till November. Then we can put up the 6-month Xmas tree. :)

4. Then call us materialistic too
But all you can do is what you can. Comes a point where no amount of preparation or superstition is going to save things.

I'm not overly concerned about Ophelia at this point, though I'm very aware of her (and find myself ducking a bit under the deep cloud cover) every time we go out the front door. Hopefully we in the Orlando area won't be seeing a fluke like we did last year for LONG time.
