Republican, Catholic N.O. native vows to vote Dem next time |
|
My mother and her husband, a St. Bernard Parish lifer, lost it all in the flood and spent a week and a half watching my t.v. here in Texas. The third day of flooding brought rounds of cussing at the television and eventually a (tearful!) claim by my step-father that he has been voting Repub his whole life and wouldn't do it anymore.
I dutifully printed out a few of the best articles analyzing the situation from a philosophical "role of government" with emphasis on Bush ineptitude. They knew about the safety of the Arabian horses before the majority of Americans knew, thanks to DU postings I would print for him.
I don't know if it was bluster, but this is a hard, hard man with guns who hunts and tolerates nothing silly. Not a fun guy, but a really serious guy. And one of the last ones I'd expect to say these things. How many have said the same thing?

Now, can we change his mind on "liberal" being a bad word?
p.s.: I know how you feel. I was raised in Middle America by fundies. Ick. I haven't even talked to them about the disaster yet.
