Did Karen Hughes really just say she would support his "limits on the
power of the states"? She was going down her laundry list of the things that blivet** believes and she will support, and she said "limits on the power of the states" clear as a bell!I tivo'd it back - here's what she said:

"I will always speak from the heart and I will always stand for what you called the non-negotiable demands of human dignity, the rule of law, limits on the power of the state, respect for women, private property, free speech, equal justice and religious tolerance."

Holy shit!

8. She could mean the Republic, but it was a poor choice of words
These people are tone deaf. They do not engage brain prior to operating mouth.

13. Oh Karen Hughes most definitely does!
Very, very savvy person. She never misspeaks, you can count whatever she said being exactly what she meant.

11. Honestly, I'm not sure, that is why I asked the question.
I need another set of ears to hear it and tell me what they hear.

3. Respect for women?
How about equality for women? To them, they can still say they want them barefoot and pregnant but that they show them great respect. They obviously showed how important women are in Iraq.

6. limits on the power of the state
that would refer to the Fed, would it not? If she said states then it would be individual State's rights. Either way, she is full of shit and only mouthing whatever words she thinks her twisted followers want to hear.

17. Typical Hughes/Rove double-speak...and IMO it was intentional. I don't
think that B* himself would understand it.

Limits on the power of the State...federal gov

But handy if she's questioned on it. Leaves it flexible for BS potential.

12. Man, that is anti-Reagan and the anti-Reaganites. This must be another
example of their dis-reality, mis-reality, death-reality, profit and ownership-reality of the right wing.

They are so conflicted. They are pitiful. They want states rights to pretend that they are reducing Washington control, but they can't tolerate that a state would vote for same-sex marriage, medicinal marijuana, euthanasia, freer abortions.

They are really conflicted (conflicted, a euphemism).

16. The State= fed, . states =states rights.
but it is still strange that she needs to remind conservatives that someone still (seems to) believe in "small government."

Or is it, "small people running the government?"

19. When B* mentioned 'human dignity' it was then that I turned off the TV.
How these f-ing hypocrites can talk about human dignity after Katrina makes at least two things very clear:

1.) the entire universe will know what lying propagadists they are and/or
2.) B*Co. believes that the population of NOLA is sub-human.

"the non-negotiable demands of human dignity"

Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 10:38 AM by patcox2
Its not that startling. This notion is the basis of the bIll of rights.

In this context, the word "state" is synonymous with "government. She is not going against federalism.
