3. Meaning, no accountability from Bush.
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 12:18 PM by Connie_Corleone
Why are reporters saying that bodies all over the streets??

Bush could kill us all and the report would say "Fewer Killed By Bush Than Expected."

4. "So it doesn't really matter who's dead because....
not as many have died as first thought" That's the line of 'logic' in Bushworld.

5. Come on folks
try not to sound like death-mongers.

If the count is actually lower then expected we should all be thankful.

18. Just hope they count everyone
...all we're saying.

I mean, there was a report that they ordered 25,000 body bags. Had to be some basis for that.

23. let's at least wait and see what the report actually says
and let's see what the facts are...remember, the media has shown more willingness in the past week than it has in the past five years to take on Bush...I'm not sure that this will last. But, let's wait and see

24. "If"
the count were lower than expected, I would certainly be thankful. However, what "authorities" are reporting this to CNN? My bet is FEMA. No credibility.

6. Let's hope so....
remember when the 9/11 death toll was over 10,000?

I HOPE it's less than that. Doesn't change the botched federal response one BIT.

38. That's what I was thinking.
When the towers fell, I kept thinking the toll would be well over 10,000.

This is good news.

7. 10,000 did seem like a big number
After 9/11 people we're speculating 50,000 dead, so these estimates from disasters aren't always accurate.

14. sounds like a PR campaign - what the FEMA people are really trained for...
From Democracy Now! today:

"But one of the things, Amy, that is not being talked about a lot is the fact that the East of New Orleans, of the city of New Orleans has largely been untouched by anyone. Rescue workers haven't made it there, journalists haven't made it there. I was talking to a Louisiana state trooper yesterday who said that he flew over the area in a helicopter, and he said that there are bodies and animals floating everywhere and that the military is guarding the area, preventing people from coming in on boats, that they have M-16s and that they're preventing people from coming in. There are reports that in one school, for instance, in that area, that there could be upwards of hundreds of bodies in the east of New Orleans, and people are not able to get in there, as well.

You know, right now, the official death toll of hurricane Katrina stands at something like 294, but as with we hear those numbers we have to understand that in St. Gabriel’s, which is not far from Baton Rouge, where I am now, they have set up a massive warehouse that is going to serve as the main morgue. They have brought in more than 25,000 body bags into the area. So we're just now at the beginning of what is going to be a very, very horrifying aftermath as the city itself dries up."

How many bodies were "found" after 9/11? How many bodies will not be found in NO? (never recovered, dissolved, predators got, etc)

Of course we'd love to hear reports of lower casualties than anticapated, but the reality we already know is that the folks indulge in "fuzzy math", whether it pertains to costs of the Medicare bill, no bid contracts, numbers of protesters, vote tallies, or countless dead Iraqi's.

I'd love to give them the benefit of the doubt and think that they just really suck at bath math and counting, but after all that's transpired, I think it's intentional deceipt and totally deplorable.

Two years later, and most Americans had the false impression that WMDs actually were found. It was a stunningly successful misinformation campaign.

estimate and today it's fewer. I don't believe them. It's a cover up. Why else do they not want journalists filming bodies? They're LYING, AGAIN.

On edit...I dO HOPE this is true, but I honestly doubt it. They're lying. As usual.

Another thread stated that someone in the area said that trucks were coming in one after the other day and night.

Not one death can be swept under the rug.

30. An initial sweep.... those are the operative words.
I doubt they've had time to go house to house. There are many areas that are still under water. Not that I want some huge death toll but they have no where near begun the actual search and recovery. They probably stood on a street corner turned 180 degress and said, "Yep, fewer than expected."

36. Also from the AP article
which is posted on www.nola.com: "Numbers so far are relatively minor as compared to the dire projections of 10,000," Ebbert said.

So far? They've just started recovering bodies! I'll be very interested to hear what Mayor Nagin has to say about Ebert's statement.

39. oh I doubt this story
we need to count the missing when its all said and done. somehow I doubt they have been in every attic of every house. Maybe thats why they aren't allowing cameras in anymore... so we can't see the bodies when the water drains.
