Efforts continue to find missing children

Seven children -- including a boy who had evacuated from New Orleans before the storm -- were missing from Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children said Thursday.

Two of the children missing are sisters: 5-year-old Jasmine and 3-year-old Jayda Valencia, who disappeared from their grandmother's home in Mobile, said Tina Schwartz, spokeswoman for the center.

Jasmine is described as 3 feet 6 inches tall, 60 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes and a birthmark on her right thigh while Jayda is 2 feet 5 inches tall and 40 pounds, with brown eyes, brown hair and a scar over her right eye.

The sisters' mother lives in New Mexico, Schwartz said. The Alabama Department of Public Safety, Mobile County Sheriff's Department and the Mobile Police Department did not have a record of a missing persons report on the sisters.
