About these "purses" being bought with FEMA cards |
|
Not only did these people buy a hell of a lot more than purses, Bush traveled to Florida to PERSONALLY hand out water to them. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/20...http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/sfl-femacoverage,0,669... . http://a1022.g.akamai.net/f/1022/8165/5m/images.sun-sen...http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/sfl-fema12aug12,0,3244...Can we keep this shit in perspective? I'm cranky -- I have a sinus infection. But reading some of these bullshit on DU is enough to send me to my sick bed for months on end.

9. I couldn't agree more... |
|
but it will not stop until folks realize that just because they are unhappy with their own lives, it is not a reason to try and make others' lives just as miserable by aiming stereotypes at them.

3. It's a big huge fucking lie anyway, injected by Fox. |
|
And I don't think it was done accidentally.

8. Of COURSE it wasn't accidental. |

I watched FOX indepth this week for the first time. It's like they were covering a whole different event. I understand now why their audience thinks the way they do now. I don't excuse it, but I understand it better.
I learned:
Black people steal, white people shop. Blacks bought luxury goods with their FEMA cards. Black people "decided not to evacuate" Pet owners are renegade holdouts for not leaving. The disaster may help the housing market!
A pox on FOX and all who watch them.

5. Those purses were part of some counterfeit |
|
goods that have been confiscated by the government. The people who are in the department that oversees the confiscated goods decided to donate the stuff to the hurricane victims. They are going through what they have to see if there is more they can donate. Don't have the link, but it was in the newspapers.

10. I heard exactly this on... |
|
...a news program last week. They were faux designer purses (rip offs) and they were GIVING them to the survivors.

11. yea and they buy lobster with food stamps |
|
that crap is just that, crap
and its been around for a long time. It REALLY bugs me how hatemongers spread the 'welfare cheat' stereotype - to make a huge deal out of some stupid thing and meanwhile the fatcats are stealing this country blind by the billions of dollars with tax breaks & corporate welfare.

14. "U.S. to Give Seized Items to Katrina Victims" |
|
Please post this information EVERYWHERE! http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-seized10sep10,1,6901983.story?coll=la-headlines-californiahe counterfeit goods fill more than 100 trucks. There are more than 6,600 blankets, 23,000 pairs of pants, 20,000 pairs of jeans, 87,000 belts, 400 cartons of toys and 15,000 pairs of shoes.
The federal government, which has been criticized for its slow response to Hurricane Katrina, is joining the list of countless charities, schools and businesses that are donating supplies to survivors.
The merchandise, at five warehouses near the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, was seized by customs agents during raids or routine inspections of cargo, passengers and mail coming by sea or air. Most of the counterfeit goods are from Russia, China, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
"Some of this merchandise is very good quality," said Michael Fleming, local spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection. "We're not giving rags to the victims by any stretch of the imagination."
On Friday, customs workers began boxing the merchandise, some of which would have otherwise been destroyed. The trucks will head to Mississippi to be distributed to shelters.
Similar efforts are taking place at government warehouses in New York, Houston and Newark, N.J., officials said.
