"Al Gore saved my family" |
|
shame on this reporter for altering the Brazile's quote. Brazile called Gore PRESIDENT. http://insidebayarea.com/sanmateocountytimes/localnews/ci_3019986
OAKLAND — They didn't pack the Coliseum Arena like a coalition of Oakland churches had hoped, but more than 1,000 filled the big arena Saturday afternoon with cheers, tears, songs and donations to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
It was an emotional day, highlighted by the appearance of more than a dozen men, women and children evacuated from flood-ravaged New Orleans.
Mark and Kenneth Bazile, residents of New Orleans and brothers of former Oakland City Councilmember and mayoral candidate Leo Bazile, told how former Vice President Al Gore rescued their entire family — 11 people, many elderly and ailing, and spirited them away on a plane he chartered.
"Al Gore saved my family; they evacuated us off the roof, including two 90-year-olds," Mark Bazile said. "When we arrived in Tennessee, the whole University of Tennessee medical staff metthe plane. (Vice) President Al Gore is a saint."

|
but the smirk with a haircut is still busy playing in the Oval Office. I'm sure Katrina sucked all the fun out of it for him. Any minute now he'll come out and say he needs to get on with his life. :grr: My anger knows no bounds.

4. I always say to anyone that disses him that |
|
this man is thoroughly decent. He was slimed and unfortunately thought politics still had honor the way it did when his dad was a Senator. He doesn't need to show off, like Jimmy Carter he just does what is right. I talked to a cousin last summer who worked high up in the Clinton administration. He said Al Gore was one of the smartest people he ever met and he's no slouch in that department. It breaks my heart for what could have been...

32. Read the sentence again - there is a comma after "show off", then the |
|
sentence says "like Jimmy Carter he just does what is right". I'm not bluedem, but as I read his/her post I think bluedem would agree that they are both great men. (if the comma was after "Jimmy Carter", then your meaning would be correct. Kind of an "eats, shoots, and leaves" thing. :-) )

Thanks to the Federalist Society, the Supreme Court, Jeb and Katherine and their Tallahassee team, Theodore Olson, James Baker, Ed Meese, and an army of crooks who stole our vote and then got the Supreme Court to dictate their choice - we ended up with the the sneerer.
Hey world! - Don't believe the sermons coming from this administration about democracy, honor, integrity, and freedoms. There is no truth to it.
Jut remember, there are some good people in this country.

21. Al Gore is not a shallow, evil, or undeducated person. There is no |

way to describe the differences in the two men. This is what theft involves - loss on many fronts.
Did we get the thieving Cheney troup because we were sleeping? If yes, when are enough of us going to be awake enough to stop this?

If that, for some of the people. I saw a picture of one survivor, a large older black woman just standing there on top of something that was protruding from the floodwaters, with nothing BUT a t-shirt.

Imagine, a politican with a heart. One whose actions speak louder than words.
Yes, why isn't this story in headlines. Oh yeah, that's right, Al did it and he didn't do a single photo-op, he didn't give a single interview. He just stepped up, did what he could and pulled strings to do it and went back to lecturing about global warming.
He is a true :patriot: and as beautiful inside as the mountains and people of Tennessee.

23. As a Tennessean who loves the mountains, hills, and valleys |
|
of Tennessee and our Native Son Al Gore, Thank You!
TN is a truly mixed bag - as someone was once quoted on NPR, "TN is poor and Conservative in the East, poor and Liberal in the West, and rich and Centrist in the Middle"
Well, I live in Mid-TN, and I'm not rich. But, even though TN only has 10 Electoral votes, it is a major political battleground because of it's demographics.
Too many Tennesseans have fallen for B's lies supported by Talk Radio's spin, but the tide is slowly turning.

35. I meant every word of it |
|
and as we all know, words sometimes fail. I know they fail me when I think of the people of Tennessee. The majority I have run into embody the best of America. Tenn. has great natural beauty that is only surpassed by the hearts and minds of its people.
I had the opportunity to meet Al and Tipper at the Gore Family Dinner in July. It is an evening both my husband and I will carry to our graves. We were out-of-towners but we were welcomed with open arms by the Gores and everyone we met. Not to mention I found some other fans of BR-549, a band that originated here in my hometown, Lawrence, Kansas. Chuck and Shaw used to be in one of my favorite bands, the Homestead Greys.
Anyway, it has been so nice to travel through Tennessee and feel at home.

In times of crisis, a true man stands up and does things without fanfare or photo-ops. He does it because it is the right thing to do.
I suspect that future historians will come to the conclusion that December 12, 2000 was the date that America lost her heart and soul.

34. I think the author thought that the man speaking was |
|
perhaps overemotional and made a mistake in referring to Gore? At least he put (Vice) in parentheses:
"Al Gore saved my family; they evacuated us off the roof, including two 90-year-olds," Mark Bazile said. "When we arrived in Tennessee, the whole University of Tennessee medical staff met the plane. (Vice) President Al Gore is a saint."
It is still worth an email to Mr. Brand to explain to him that there are LOTS of us smart, well-informed people who refer to the gentleman as President Gore. Also worth mentioning to Mr. Brand that the article is overall pretty well-written - I like that he worked in the Rabbi's quote and gut-wrenching quotes from survivors and from people whose loved ones are still missing.

I think people would go for Al Gore in 2008.
It looks like 61% of us (latest Bush approval at 39%) may have regrets that Bush got in over Gore. I wonder how many have thought that we woudn't be in this mess if Gore had been elected in 2000.
And America loves a comeback kid.
