Bush was SOOoooooo hoping that 9/11 would make everything better
But the ass didn't count on people looking at the response to that disaster and comparing it to the current debacle of Standingwatergate.

There was one reason and one reason alone that Bush was considered as a "leader" after 9/11.

Rudy Guliani.

He owes it all to that man (like him or not, the man demonstrated the qualities of leadership required in such a mess). Had Rudy not demonstrated leadership on that day, the respect would not have overflowed to Bush. Bush feeds off the qualities and effectiveness of others. He's a respect vampire, sucking the respect others deserve onto himself.

And in the current debacle, NOBODY demonstrated leadership qualities, so there was no overall sense of well being for theBush administration to pick up on and feed off of.

3. I agree with you, but would like to point out that 9/11

as awful as it was, took out only a small part of one extremely large city making it a "more manageable disaster".

Katrina COMPLETELY took out several cities (think underreported Biloxi) across THREE states. In 9/11, Guliani rose to the occasion, ably supported by a largely functional infrastructure and a huge fleet of first responders. Katrina's "on the ground leaders", mayors and governors, had literally nothing to work with and desperately needed the Feds to bring them what they needed.

The Feds were on vacation.

On Edit: Interesting factoid, total population of NYC is about 8 million, total population of all of Louisiana is about 4.5 million.

6. Huge difference.
During 9/11, most of us got to weep in our own beds. We never missed a meal. We had communications injured but not crippled. CBS and cable stations were uninterrupted. We had INFORMATION.

No terrorist ever took out an entire city.
