Roberts' eyes have no soul.
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 01:56 PM by fooj
They are empty. Take a close look. They are void of expression...look into them and it's as if they are endless. Empty. IMO, even though his eyes are physically appealing, there is something about them that is chilling. Check it out.

Peace.

7. Maybe an introvert?
I don't know. Some people see a lot of soul in Bush's eyes. Some never saw any in Kerry's.

I think soul and warmth are generally related to a person's extroversion. I suspect Bush is a souless extrovert. Kerry a compassionate introvert. Roberts...don't know, haven't heard him speak.

16. It's really not possible to tell for sure
from a still picture. You have see the person in action, see the body language, facial expressions and eye movements. To be honest, the picture below in this thread makes him look like a fairly pleasant guy. And so do many of Bush's campaign pics. I think it's premature to be saying that Roberts is souless. A lot of DUers would have said the same thing about any Republican appointee, and they yet haven't all turned out to be 100% bad.

19. Cannot agree about Kerry at all. Re Bush:
you would think there would be soul there for him to make the soul remark about Putin, but there cannot be any soul to someone who played out that horribly vile act on Carla Fay Tucker and the total sincere uncaring about death. He relishes death. What kind of soul is that?

I think Roberts and Bush are programmed. What else can it be? Unless......

46. Charisma?
I don't get what some people claim to see in Bush at all, but there's a whole section of the population that really did see him as practically walking on water. I don't think that's just due to spin. He must connect to something in their psyche that they read as soul.

I look at Bush and see a sociopath. But there are lots of people who are conned by sociopaths. That sort feeds on people's emotion. People mistake it for charisma.

Seems to me, all in all, low charisma is proabably desirable in judges.

30. It's like saying Hillary is frumpy and wears a permanent frown...
therefore, she's unsuitable for public office. It's just silliness. And by the way, I don't believe in souls, so the comment on "eyes are the windows to what is inside" registers nothing for me. It's not a rational criticism of Mr. Roberts, and nobody will change their positions on him by such criticism. It's empty.

26. Who the fuck is Robert?
Sorry to be a grammar Nazi, but this Roberts guy is really throwing a spotlight on some people's piss-poor punctuation. His name is ROBERTS WITH AN 'S', so to describe something belonging to or attributed to him, the apostrophe goes after the 's', as in

Roberts' penis is tiny.

Or with an extra 's' if you must, as in

Roberts's brain is even smaller.

At the moment it looks like you're talking about some dude called Robert, and I see this mistake on DU all the time. Keep it together, people; we're supposed to be the smart ones.

I'm a sub-editor, so it's my job to pick up on this shit. And no offense, but MCL or Albert frickin' Einstein is no guarantee; throughout my career I've worked on stuff by distinguished academics and professional journalists whose standard of literacy was way, way worse than any DUer (or even Freeper)... I'm talking 12-year-old level here.

It wasn't aimed specifically at you; like I said, people here make this mistake all the time, and it's a shame because it could easily be avoided if people paid a bit more attention, and then punctuation Nazis like me wouldn't have to see our blood pressure go through the roof. I understand it was a typo, but every time I see this error on DU it's like a needle in my pedantic little eye.

Obviously the confusion comes because of the "Robert" part of his name... no one would ever talk about "Alan Colme's penis" or "Rudolph Hes's (or He'ss) balls".

Actually, maybe they would. As much as I love text messages and the e-mail, literacy in general has taken a fucking nosedive since they were invented. But that's another thread.

Anyway, sorry. :)

Edit: Ha, you went and fixed it... you know I am righteous. :)

44. It's one thing to be intelligent
that is what is harped on about Roberts. But the lack of "soul" - of empathy - is obviously a problem with Republicans - or we wouldn't have witnessed what we did in New Orleans.

Empathy matters in a politician or a judge who is making decisions about people's lives.

Indeed - about whether people live or die. If they don't care - they shouldn't be in that position.

My take on him is that he doesn't really have his own opinions. He has just learned what the correct opinion is, according to who you are trying win for (although I guess that is a description of lawyers in general). It seems he has the mentality of total conformism, which can a scary thing when someone can't have a really intelligent, new thought.
