Sadly, my sister survived Ophelia enough to spew.
She lives in North Myrtle Beach, real close to the water. I called her to see if she was okay. She is, house didn't flood this time.

Somehow after family and movie talk she geared the conversation to Roberts. She screamed that the female Justice wants 12 year olds to have abortions without talking to their parents!

I don't know the rulings on this. All I know is that my sister had an abortion at 15 and she has become a person I don't recognize as thinking for herself.

Scary.

1. Yeah, the better alternative would be to force 12 year-old girls to
carry a pregnancy to term, even if they were raped.....

2. Well, first of all
Your title is slightly... off... I would make it more clear.

Secondly, The best thing you can do is inform her with facts, which she is obviously lacking in. Don't be confrontational.

4. You know what brockman?
I'm tired of mincing my words and altering my titles. I said exactly what I felt.

My sister is still the same racist asshole as ever. When I brought up the Katrina situation, she said this "those fuckers should get a job" and that is when I hung up the phone.

14. i never understood why racists say "those people" need to get a job...
...yet they do everything in their power to destroy affirmative action college and hiring policies that would help "those people" get a job.

makes you wonder if they really want "those people" to get a job.

3. My brother is a log cabin republican
Sick.

I know from his one drunken phone call that showed that he has a fiber of conscience that he depends on people like me to stand up for his civil rights while his rich ass just gets richer.

I know from experience that these people are so self centered that they count on us, the very people that they vilify, to save their asses from themselves.

It is all so sick

6. I hear ya.
I made an extraordinary effort to talk to her about her and her family's safety, as well as my parents safety (they evacuated this morning from north of Wilmington along the coast).

Yet when things got light-hearted and we discussed movies her kids were watching...it got ugly. And SHE MADE IT UGLY.

21. That is why I find Log Cabin republicans particularly despicable...
they are counting on MY party to spend its poltical capital in order to ensure THEIR civil liberties.
I would out that asshole to EVERYONE who knows him. Let the chips fall where they may.

5. No one really wants that. Your poor sister is listening to the bad people.
I'm sorry. And what female justice? Neither O'Connor or Ginsburg would promote that. But, a 12 year old, in most part, shouldn't be bearing children. That is physically and emotionally damaging.

I am sorry, again, for your sister's pain. She was too young for all of that. She needs perspective, and she doesn't seem to be getting that from her spiritual counselors.

9. Of course no one wants 12 year olds to have abortion alone.
But circumstances change everything. When I asked my sister if she had been 12 instead of 15 and the father of the child was her Dad, what would she do?

She said liberals want to take over.

No shit.

18. Liberals want to take over and make 12 year olds have babies?
I know you didn't say that, but I think she just said she wants twelve year olds to have babies from an incestuous union... or a rape...or whatever. That's what she needs to understand and take accountability for. How that would happen I have no clue.

Oh, man. This is just too crazy. Some of these churches need to be held responsible for the stupidity and hate they churn out. But this isn't a perfect world. I'm sorry for your sister.

19. She is not a church go-er, except for the
times when she feels like going to an "open beach church".

Long story about her.

24. I want it.
If the choice is between 12-year olds having abortions or having babies, count me in the abortion category every time.

Of course, I don't consider a collection of cells a human life any more than a vial of blood is a human life.

Pro abortion. Guilt free. Nice to meet you!

8. I don't have a problem with minors having abortions.
But... I do think they should have to talk to a social worker or something just to make certain there is no abuse going on in the home. And also if they had to speak to a social worker, it'd be the perfect chance to discuss birth control.

28. Sounds like your sister
has more issues with abortion beyond political rhetoric and could benefit from a little counseling to explore them. I would reserve making a harsh judgment regarding her politics and show some concern for her psyche. Why should she deny some other teenager access to the same procedure she took advantage of? There is something else going on here.
