This NEW organization says:
"It is NOT open to people who want to defend religion or religious hate groups. It is also NOT open to people who are members of religious hate groups and most of all there will be absolutely NO pro Jesus or Christianity allowed."

We "Liberals Like Christ" believe we have a much better strategy: promote the LIBERAL views of Christ himself to persuade as many as possible of the 80% of American voters who identify themselves as "Christians" on behalf of gays, as well as women, and every minority oppressed by the Religious Right.

yeah, I can see their point of keeping fundies out, but NO mention of Christianity at all?

And only Christianity? Moslems, Jews, and Hindus are OK? As if they don't ever have problems with homosexuality? Maybe it's only Christians that get in their faces. Perhaps they think it best to just ban all Christians than try to figure out who are the friendly ones.

I'm all for fighting the religious right, but these people are on the wrong track if they are going to make such blanket statements and refuse to work with the large numbers of liberal Christians out there.

I'm an atheist who recognizes the Christ of both the NT and the suppressed gospels as (at the least) a liberal.

I also recognize that any progressive movement can't succeed if it goes out of its way to alienate Christians who try to follow the path laid out by Christ in his teachings. You can find those people in any mainstream church in the country.

We need them.

For the longest time, I've been looking for an organization I could support and be a part of...that wants to fight the Religious Reich.

I am a male-to-female transgender (post-op now almost one year) who is sick and damn tired of the oppression heaped upon us merely because THEY can't handle what we have done...the only thing that we could do to cure our own inner turmoil, and the incongruency that existed between our physical bodies and our minds, spirits and hearts.

For years I was a woman trapped in a man's body. for YEARS...I had the mind, spirit, heart and soul of a woman...and the body of a man...this caused me great personal despair that led to two failed suicide attempts.

FINALLY (if you'll pardon the pun) I got the balls to deal with the real problem head on...and I transitioned, and eventually got surgery.

And for this I have been legally denied my basic civil rights, human dignity...I have been denied jobs, legally...

And these Reicher morons aren't even religious! I'd have a lot more respect for them if they'd be honest, and quit using code words like "family values" and "Christian morality" when what they really mean is hatred, disgust, bigotry, prejudice and fear!

I'd still hate them, despise them, and disagree with them...bt I'd respect them a lot more if they would just be honest. The REAL reason they oppose us GLBT folks is...(blaring trumpet) WE GROSS THEM OUT!!!

Well, a news flash for the intolerant bastards...heterosexuality GROSSES US OUT!! Yet, every day, we have it rammed in our faces!! Everything from Reality TV (Temptation Island, Paradise Hotel) to soap operas, to sitcoms, to popular music, movies, the high school prom...all the way down to the scuzzy couple on the city bus playing tonsil hockey!!

And they whine when we have ONE FRIGGIN' DAY A YEAR where we can show our PRIDE!!

Thank you to the original poster...I'll be looking into this organization. I'm one of those who recognize the Religious Reich is neither "right" nor "religious." That's merely their cover!!

Because it isn't acceptable for them to say what it REALLY is...that it grosses them out! So they cloak it in religion, because who can argue with religion, right?

Another pissed off transsexual ready to fight the good fight against the Religious Reich...and I invite REAL Christians to join me in this fight, too!! My mom is a born-again Christian, and accepts me and loves me as her daughter now. A true Christian. Not a hater. There's a difference. I'm sad for those who do not recognize the difference. Perhaps my words above will help you to differentiate.
