The Latest On Bush's Speech |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 01:23 AM by soliddemocrat
Hello Everyone, As i was reading the news i excerpted these quotes from the article. Most of them are the Democrats and Republicans backing up Bush's Plan, but if you go down to the very last quote Senator John Kerry votes against Bush's speech and makes a very good statement :) . Check out these quotes:
"The president picked a very inspiring spot to make this speech. The image is worth many words in terms of what Jackson Square and the cathedral mean to New Orleans and what New Orleans means to the nation. ... His three proposals are innovative and bold.'' -- Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La.
"The president tonight spoke eloquently of both the suffering this hurricane has caused and about the hope that continues to rise in the Gulf Coast region, even as the floodwaters recede." -- Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas
"The Gulf Coast region does not deserve to be treated as a laboratory for political opportunism or ideological experimentation. Now is the time for unity.'' -- Statement by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
"He has expressed his disappointment with the initial response. We, in the Congress, echo that sentiment. However, in the days following the storm, this country has demonstrated the true spirit of what makes America great, neighbors coming together and helping one another.'' -- House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill.
"Leadership isn't a speech or a toll-free number. Leadership is getting the job done. No American doubts that New Orleans will rise again. They doubt the competence and commitment of this administration.'' -- Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. Source: Associated Press
I couldn't agree with John Kerry more, i do doubt the competence and commitment of this administration highly and i highly doubt that they'll get the job done. I hope to hear from you soon, good luck in all you do.
Signed, Greg

1. I was highly offended he spoke from NO |
|
I'm sure he was neither invited nor welcome. NO wanted nothing to do with him.

3. Another point made on MSNBC was that the choice of location was |
|
scenic, but perhaps not realistic enough...like a photo-op for the history books. I think you're right about NO not wanting him.

7. I was shocked yesterday......... |
|
.......when he accepted responsibility for the screw ups after the hurricane. And I was shocked again tonight when I heard the speech!! I've heard many people say that this speech was more like an LBJ or FDR speech! I agree with that...........usually liberals are the ones who provide govt assistance to the common man.

that when LBJ or FDR spoke, you could be reasonably sure that they'd do what they said.
Not so the boy wonder.
