Purple Crescent: DHS ran NOLA preparedness exercises in 2003, 2004

Even though this appears in DU's "Blog Box" I haven't seen many mentions of this on the main boards and no mentions of it in the MSM. This really needs to be pushed out into the media -- in light of the fact that these exercises were conducted, why wasn't the response better prepared?

The Department of Homeland Security Was Preparing for "Two Catastrophes" in New Orleans

Mike Chertoff, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, made the rounds of the Sunday morning talk shows this morning. One of his themes was that the particular pattern of events in New Orleans--a major hurricane and a subsequent flood due to breached levees--was an "ultra-catastrophe" for which nobody could have planned.

(snip)

It turns out, though, that the Department of Homeland Security has extensively studied how to cope with a "second wave" following a major hurricane in New Orleans.

Guess what the second wave was.

You guessed it. Not a breached levee, but terrorism.

I haven't seen a single thing about "Purple Crescent" in the regular media. Has anybody?

3. This is a key piece of information -- could explain "Federalized"
remark -- and the idiots not allowing "approved" trucks in with water etc.

These jerks are so out of touch with reality -- it would be a joke -- except people DIED!

These idiots were expecting and planning for TERRORISTS -- and now we know how they will respond if there is a real terrorist attack.

You know what kids -- Osama WON -- yes indeed -- he won!

Old bushie is busy killing Americans for Osama bin Lauden!

I am beyond pissed --

4. I find it tragic and deplorable that NO public officials are . . .
standing up and saying "People died! -- because of the corrupt indifference of Goerge W. Bush and his administration!" . . .

the fact that People Died! seems to be something that's escaping them -- or that they simply don't care about . . . the people who died were mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles, neices and nephews, grandfathers and grandmothers . . . they all MEANT SOMETHING -- they were as dear to those they leave behind as OUR mother, fathers, sons, daughters, and all the rest are to us . . .

now, three weeks after the hurricane, there has STILL not been a house to house search for survivors -- or for bodies . . . this is something that should have happened within three days of the event at the latest . . . because it didn't, many people perished . . . and those people could just as easily have been you or me or someone we love . . .

People Died! . . . and no one in elected or appointed office is acknowledging it, much less condemning it . . . I find that both tragic and deplorable . . .

5. They've been doing house to house searches for awhile now.
I don't quite get your assertion that they haven't. I have seen the reports of house to house searches on many media sources.

7. but they're not entering the homes . . .
they've been instructed to look through the windows and see whatever they see . . . they're not going into the attics, where they should have gone within days of the disaster . . .
