Trashing our own is what got Idiot Son in office
Never forget it was trashing our own for not being liberal enough that got us George Idiot Son Bush.

If the answer was Gore should have run further to the LEFT then Nader would have won the election.

Trashing our own is idiotic and brought us rePUKE rule.

1. I disagree somewhat....
I think we have a lot Democrats that do not know they are Democrats. Somewhere along the line, they adopted Republican politics and policies, such as the estate tax, for example, and have spread a terrible virus within the Party, unknowingly of course, but which has caused unestimable harm. They call themselves centrists. They have brought us Republican rule, I fear. They are capitalists first and Democrats second.

2. we didnt learn from gore. did it with kerry too.
what i love the most, (being sarcastic) bush has done all this stuff, is responsible for all this stuff. the repugs have the power, and have done so much beyond what has ever happened before, shutting dems out in congress. and media is actively pro bush and yet...... we the dems beat up on the dems for letting bush get away with all this. dont beat up on bush, repugs or media, go after the dem. such logic

and reality,.... the dems have been more vocal and aggressive than we have ever seen in the past. do we encourage, reward them, oh no. we simply beat up on them harder. say what they did didnt matter cause it wasnt soon enough, or loud enough or a tantrum like what we would do.

3. I agree. I stopped reading The Nation in 2000 because all of their
articles about the election criticized GORE! That was so monumentally stupid that I have never picked up that piece of crap again.

8. bullshit. i am furiously angry at the dems. but...
it's not really the leadership. it's the fucking *VOTERS* i can't stand. the rank and file morons who elect these ineffectual assholes because they're afraid of trying to elect someone who isn't at least ninety percent fucking fascist. republican. fascist.

so, well... bullshit. if i'm gonna vote crypto-fascist, (christo-fascist) i'll go for the whole damned enchilada. "gentle fascism" just doesn't sound like as as much fun.

9. No, it was not trashing Bush that got Bush into office
I was SO frustrated with Gore during the debates. It was the culmination of twenty years of Democratic capitulation and triangulation and hoping that playing nicey-nice would make the mean Republicanites stop beating up on us.

Bush would say, "I believe thus and so," and Gore would basically say,"Me too."

This kind of timidity made the election close enough to steal. Remember that within a couple of days of the election, an incredible 35% of voters had not made up their minds.
Political junkies obviously knew that Gore and Bush were different, but evidently, a huge number of people, whose only info came from the mass media, were unable to tell the two candidates apart.

The election was close enough to steal due to large numbers of voters not being able to tell the two candidates apart. No amount of Nader bashing will change that.

You knee-jerk apologists have to understand that the "Dem bashing" is the result of 20 years of frustration, in which we watched the Dems try to move closer and closer to the center as defined by Republicans (led by Gore in the early years--he supported the Contras and Reagan's military buildup) only to end up letting the Republicans set the agenda.

I'll gleefully trash any Dem who says gushy nice things about Bush or supports Republicanite legislation that hurts ordinary people.

11. They smash our "Big Tent" to piece by doling our various fears.
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 10:46 PM by applegrove
And they built their own Repuke "big tent" throug wedge issues.

No Dems have ever gotten control of the House, Senate or WH without the big tent.

You do not get "exactly what you want in a democracy - you hopefully get a little of what you need".
