I confess: I subscribe to NY Times Select.
I got it so I would have access to the archives. I get access to 100 articles a month--way more than I need, so far. I don't buy the Times everyday, and if I did, I wouldn't save them. But now I have access to archives going back to 1981. This could be useful.

1. I'm willing to confess also.
For me it was that darn Maureen Dowd, Krugman, and lately Herbert. They sent me the email the other day with the headlines, and there at the bottom was the listing for Dowd's Op-Ed. I couldn't stand it. I turned myself in and paid up. I agree that the archives access could be useful as well, although I haven't used it yet.

2. A really nice DUer would start an email list
to forward the columns.

Or you could keep them all to yourself. That's fine.

5. Isn't the Amygdala trick working anymore?
The cutting "select" out of the URL?

3. Since the NYTimes just "laid off" 500 employees....
they probably asked some of the "big names" to maybe take some paycuts also. This would be an excellent way to compensate those that may have had to take a paycut? Maybe?

6. If I didn't work where we sell the NYT....
I kind of like this. it makes me kind of interested in the front page on line, then when I get to Barnes and Noble I can peruse the op eds.

9. Maureen Dowd's columns also available here....
http://timesunion.com/

and at other papers around the country.

She's syndicated on a one-day delay.

11. Me too but I am trying the 12 step plan or what ever for now.
It is really making me mad not to read Dowd.

7. 1981? I thought they were providing the archives straight back to 1851.
What gives?

12. The search goes to 1981.
Maybe the advanced search goes back further?

8. I subscribed Monday a.m. -- no way will I go without Krugman!
And, although I have access to Lexis-Nexis, it only goes back so far -- I agree, BurtWorm, having access to the NYT archives to 1981 may indeed prove useful.

14. There are other sources for Krugman's columns, and Dowd's
but there is No substitute for the NY Times archives, which do indeed go back to 1851 (check the advanced search properties.)

Krugman: http://www.pkarchive.org/
http://web.mit.edu/krugman/www/

Dowd: http://timesunion.com/ -- check their list of columnists to find hers.
