I am worried Rita will overshadow the War Protest |
|
This is just bad timing! Just look here on DU. Their are more threads about Rita than the war protest. If we cant stay focused then I can't believe the rest of the country will be. Rita is doing damage to our countries politics as well. Rita sucks in every way! Well actually Rita BLOWS!!!!
Thoughts?

2. I think Rita is going to "fizzle" |
|
and to that I say "thank god"...
I saw Dr Steve Lyons a little while ago mention that the wave action in the gulf is nothing like Katrina, and that the wind field is shrinking...still strong around the center but not as strong on the outside....
that's a hopeful sign.
keep your fingers crossed everybody.

The same thought has crossed my mind more than once.
I know of someone in Texas - says the winds are 20 mph about 3 hrs. ago.
Let's hope Rita does fizzle out.
Even if Rita does, Rita will have taught America one HUGE lesson and the war protests will only be that much more important!

4. I had that tought about Katrina three weeks ago but |
|
it appears that not to be the case. Yes, Rita had terrible timing.
BUT again people are wondering how we are going to pay for the hurricanes, well, maybe this will remind folks we're spending $200 Billion in Iraq. And with gas going to $4 ....
Frankly, outside of TX/AK/LA and except for a couple of football games pretty much the rest of America is doing whatever they would be doing this weekend - Rita or no Rita.
I say this protest is just the warm up - let's schedule another in non-hurricane season like the spring

The war protest is important, but so are the lives of those in Rita's path.

7. For the sake of my Texan friends on DU, |
|
I'm going to say that a potentially devastating natural disaster just may be a wee bit more important than any protest. There will be other protests at other times. This is extremely important and relevant, considering some folks' lives may be at stake.

but I think the prospect of another hurricane potentially destroying another city is just a tad more newsworthy than a missing woman in Aruba. Just saying...

17. what was yr first clue |
|
not to be mean spirited but 15 million protested the war before it started, "they" didn't care
ain't nobody in power gonna care abt yr protest now that we're committed
right now we're still picking up our own dead & dying in this country & ain't none of us volunteered
it is sad that our soldiers are dying in iraq
i am opposed to the war & did everything in my power to protest it
but the fact remains we do have an all volunteer army & now i have to turn my attention to saving my own ass & my own ppl & my own country
there is nothing i can do for iraq as a displaced person
yes, the hurricane coverage will overshadow a protest, ppl are dying right here on american soil, ppl are being reduced to homeless refugees right here on american soil
it's a little bigger than yet another protest that will be three minutes on the news & forgotten by sunday

Seems that would be an ever bigger and better reason to go to the protest.
Can't go - try putting peace signs on the letters you mail.
Get involved in organizations like MoveOn.org.
Write to your senators.
Just because you cannot go due to the cards fate has dealt you doesn't mean that there is no reason to go on and fight.

32. "Timing" doesn't matter when lives are involved |
|
This transcends politics. Too bad all * thinks of is politics. The reason he's high-tailed it to Colorado isn't for another photo-op -- though KKKarl may have convinced himself that it is. The truth is that Bush has to do something, and he can't do it in Washington, because there's going to be 100,000+ protestors on his front lawn tomorrow. He's scared of mother nature, and he's scared of us, because both expose what an inept, boob of a president he is. He's a failure.
