HOW ABOUT A HONORE/BROUSSARD TICKET FOR '08? |
|
I don't know what political party General Russell Honore belongs to but I sure like his leadership style and I highly respect Aaron Broussard's plain-spoken honesty and fearlessness.
These are the kind of men that I would like to see in the White House.

Seems like neither the reds or blues want Honore. He barks. He smokes, And he is not a good ol' Unka Tom like Colin Powell. He's a man of color who dared tell some soldiers to point their "goddamn guns" down instead of pointing them at American citizens who were doing absolutely NOTHING criminal.
IMHO, he is the right man at the right time for the job he is doing and I like his style, which it is my right to say.
Most people responding to this post want the regular, scared shitless politicians to run for the presidency and keep lying to all of us.
Oh, well... I expressed MY opinion about the kind of men I would like to see in office, but it seems like there are more folks out there who want to remain in LaLa land with the fakers and dreamers. That's what makes this country "America the Beautiful."

ANYONE who would think that Honore is material for anything other than a loudmouth, slobbering, Chimp arze kissing Neo-Con...would respond like you did...I said nothing about YOU...just about Honore and his boorish tactics....You just decided to attack because everyone else in the thread thinks your idea is INSANE!!!

8. I agree with several posters here about Honore. |
|
He is an enforcer-cop, someone who was never all that bright and who likes to shove his weight around, pretending that a disruption in events -- especially a disruption he engineers -- somehow equals moral authority.
He's a classic bully. He's vulgar. He chain-smokes. He has a visible distrust of the media -- not that I don't -- but his distrust is from the far right end of the spectrum, the one that believes that only FOX can appropriately report on a story and only then if the powers that be have ordained the story worthy of public consumption. Any newsperson who questions him on other terms, he snaps at and tries to silence.
There's just a hint of Humphrey Bogart's go-to-hell posturing in Honore, but mostly it's a slurry of swamprat ignorance and violence-as-a-first-solution authoritarianism.
A total right wing asshole in my book.

But I am curious as to where everyone has this view that he's a neocon...where can we find info as to his personal politics? As former military myself, I'm used to seeing a pissed off officer spit nails...so the cussing and yelling doesn't bother me...Just wondering what the grounds for the initial argument are?
Good points you made!

trying to do, and you're NOT gonna do it." He was rude and disgusting and so was Nagin in that press conference I saw with them.
Both of them struck me as the kind of guys that consider alot of people "beneath them." And, particularly females.
I posted their comments here on DU after I saw it. I had hoped both of them were really good people and wanted to defend Nagin against all the attacks the sneering media has been doing about him, but after watching that...I knew that neither of those two were the kind of people I could respect after that. Nagin was condescending and Honore was crude.
I know they are both tired and strung out and maybe sick of the media...but they didn't handle themselves well in their positions as either a General or a Mayor.

17. I am not a francophone |

Although it was my father's first language in his childhood home in Thibodeaux. The good Christian Brothers only offered Spanish, or Latin in case you had a vocation.
However, I think the people of New Orleans need to begin to reach out to their cousin in Acadiana (and the divide there is great), and begin to discuss how they might better rebuild themselves with the income from their own oil and gas and port, free from the interference of the United States.
Bilingualism would be a good place to start. Using our oil and gas revenue to rebuild the coastal wetlands would be another good common point of discussion. (Hell the US is never going to do it; it would cost, in one of the best estimates's, something on about the scale of the Apollo Program or the Interstate Highway System.).

18. Flippancy with the presidency is exactly the reason |
|
we're in the mess we are in.
The office of president is a little too important to give to the person who makes you feel the warmies when you see them on TV, ferchrisake.
Elect a president who is the person you'd hire to run your family's successful-but-indebted company, raise your children if you died, and keep their inheritance safe and working for them, all the while resolving a longstanding fued between your family and the neighbors.
IOW, take it seriously. Hell, half of brain dead America remains convinced that GW Bush is plain-spoken, honest, and fearless.
I'm not, btw, saying those men aren't light years ahead of GW Bush. I am saying that their very positive role in the Katrina disaster does not qualify them to be the most powerful man on earth.

28. I very honestly posted the two names just as a matter of discourse... |
|
to lead to a discussion of the plain-spoken type of politicians that I would LIKE to see in charge of the government for a chance (FAT CHANCE!) Of, course the office is too important to be bandied about or taken lightly, but sometimes it helps to discuss other types of leadership style. It can broaden the mind and cause the participants to see past the lock-step guys we have run for office in the recent past, (And that is NOT to say that I don't like the Democratic candidates who have run since 2000). I would just like to discuss other styles and other personalities, for chrissake!
Jeez, one poster accuses Honore of being a NeoCon without providing proof. Are we so unaware that people are switching party affiliations like they change ties?
Nagin was a Republican until just before he ran for office.
Rudy Giuliani was a Democrat until he was defeated by African American David Dinkins which turned RG into a total racist.
Mike Bloomberg was a Democrat until the party would not let him run for Mayor of NYC so he switched parties and won as a Republican.
All the guys who wrote the Patriot Act... Wolfie, and Perle, et al were formerly Dems. Some still are but are Dems who vote Republican.
The DLC are Repubs in Democratic clothing.
The straight party ticket is no more. We have to think outside of the usual box. We have to consider a lot of possibilities and potential candidates.

40. I have become a fan of Lt. General Honore... |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-27-05 12:23 AM by jg82567
....but I will be the first to admit it is based on nothing more than a few clips of stories i've seen on CNN and a couple of press briefings. However, I am not someone who wants to run somebody for office just because he got me excited for half a second.
One thing that I get a sense of from reading the posts on this thread is that IMO, (1) not everyone appreciates the position Honore is in and (2) his behavior is entirely appropriate for the environment that he normally functions in. He is an active duty member of the military and GWB is his commander in chief and he can't ever forget that no matter what his personal feelings (which none of us knows) re: Bush may be.
The whole reason that the military is being so heavily relied on in this situation is because of the deliberate effort to destroy FEMA and any other gov't agency that would be brought to action in a natural disaster, that, and the scope of the calamity. Now, the only entity that appears to be functioning at a level that can actually get something done is the military and that me be exactly what the neocons want. But whatever their agenda, Honore has a job to do and it is not to publicly challenge his civilian leadership. We've all heard the stories of the career military guys being relieved of their commands just months or weeks before they're due to retire because they dared to utter disagreement with this administration. I don't blame these guys who've got 30-35 yrs.of their lives invested in the military not wanting to cut their own throats so close to getting the gold watch and benefits that they've earned, not to mention being outcasts from a group they've be a part of their entire adult lives.
Also, we tend to feel that if someone is not actively attacking our political enemy, he/she IS our political enemy.
I don't know, and none of the rest of you do either, what his political inclinations are, but it is clear that the military is so deeply ingrained in his being that he ends his sentences like he's communicating by radio. Over. And his impatient responses to the media clearly indicate that he has never attempted to be anybody's diplomat and that is not something he needs to do to be effective as a soldier.
I think some of the knee jerk, overly heated responses of venom and contempt toward Honore reveal far more the biases of the poster than it indicates anything substantive re:the General. We have far bigger fish to fry...he is not our problem and he is just doing his job. The ?'s that need to be answered regarding failures of this catastrophe are not his to answer. He's the one guy who seems to actually be able to rise to the occasion. Everyone else is struggling mightily, esp. *.

I'd need to know A LOT more about his political positions before I could even consider endorsing him. I think this party needs someone who is tough, but he'd have to know where to draw the line with that toughness. I don't know whether or not he is a neo-con as some have said, but I'd be willing to look into it.
