Ok, I don't get it. Is Governor Blanco using some kind of PR strategy ? |
|
Yes, I watched Brownie's lies live today, and was not surprised by his arrogant attitude...he still thinks he did a "darn good job". What worries me a bit though is the almost silent response over the whole Katrina episode by governor Blanco. I understand she has to put her constituents first, but goodness, she is taking a whole lot of unnecessary beating by BushCo apologists. Is it too much to ask her to do one of these Sunday morning news shows like Meet the Press, just for everyone to hear her side of the story from her own mouth? Maybe I am being unfairly harsh to her, I don't know. Brownie, the Hannities and the Foxnews people attacking her credibility so much is weighing quite heavily on my mind.
I'd just love to see her come out strong and set the record straight.

1. If she doesn't, she is history, and so are Democrats all over the |
|
south. What kind of Democrat is she anyway to take the endless insults without a peep?

2. She's a tad busy right now seeing as most of her state is in a |
|
catastrophic situation. If I were a constituent I would certainly want her working rather than getting face time on the tube.
The record will be set straight, I have no doubt.

3. Why are you concerned over "foxnews"? |
|
Their viewership is so small(and declining) that they are irrevelant.

7. I'm afraid it isn't just fox. I agree with this post qs. and I think it |
|
is going to hurt big time because the spinning is working. People will only remember the Nagin and Blanco as responsible...I'm worry about this as well.

8. I don't watch Foxnews for news sake |
|
I watch it once in a while to get a jist of RW talking points. I mentioned Fox primarily as an example of the huge right wing media influence including talk-radio on Katrina's framing.

Yes, she needs some people on PR and response full time to defend her and the state.

9. I never wanted her as my Gov...she was the weakest *dem* in the race.. |
|
....she's proved me correct in my belief that she doesn't have any clue as to how to govern...especially now that we need a strong voice for the people of my state..she's having to learn the hard way...actually having to WORK instead of just being a *figurehead*....sickeningly sad but all too true. :(

1. I think this lady is WORN OUT. I know I'm playing armchair physician, but she looks exhausted on TV. I'm worrried about her. In terms of number of people affected, dollar value of real estate trashed (much of it with toxic waste), and immensity of clean up required, her state hit the trifecta.
2. She doesn't want to get into a pissing contest with the one man she HAS to depend on to help her state. George W. Bush* has it in his capability and inclination to seriously f*ck up anybody who crosses him and still make it look like their fault. She has to make nice.
I'm sure her gorge is in a permanent state of "risen". If she doesn't have an ulcer it's a miracle.

She's probably busy as hell with getting her state back on its feet; however, I don't want to see her swift-boated and respond too late like John Kerry did. I agree that she does need to respond to this NOW.

13. Gov. Blanco is doing an outstanding job with limited resources and the |
|
biggest disaster ever facing any governor.
A governor with integrity would focus 100% on her present job and ignore PR and re election strategy. That's exactly what she's doing.
Some people who criticize Blanco have never had more responsibility than taking out the trash and that includes Bush and Brown.
Go Blanco, damn the critics and continue doing your job.
I'll share a foxhole with her any day cause when the bullets start flying she won't run for cover.

14. I've really tried to support Blanco, but if she doesn't speak up soon it |
|
is going to be too late.
I know she is busy, tired, and probably trying to work with * to do what is best for LA.
Unfortunately, people are starting to buy the Rovian propoganda. There was a real distaste down here on the Gulf for FEMA and the Fed response, but now when I open up my editorial page, it is filled with blame for the mayor of NO and governor of LA. I think they missed their opportunity to show what really happened.
Sorry, but she comes across as somewhat of a twit. I'm not saying she is, but public perception counts for a lot.

Give it time, she will have her say. She has the documents to back her up. James Witt was her first good move and that I think will serve her well.

If she should go out there, she will just be in a he said, she said situation. She will be on the defensive because the lazy media does not do their homework. The just parrot what ever script they have been given.
The facts of the matter will come out as they have been along. The people will see.

18. I would agree except in general, the American public has such a short |
|
attention span and I am afraid that by the time it comes out, it will not be very significant. People would have already moved on to something else. I hate to say that, but I feel like it is true.
Let's be honest, when soldiers are killed in Iraq, the general public doesn't really notice anymore. When the war started, their faces, stories, and names were all over the news. Now, unless it is some large number together, they don't get the big headlines. I find that really tragic. It's even more true for the Iraqis.
In a few more weeks, it will be time for another "runaway bride" story.
Again, I really hope you are right and I am wrong.

20. Yes, but the American public is buying the * spin that it was the local |
|
government's mistakes that caused the poor response. That has an effect on how they might vote in the national elections if they see how * and his ilk don't really care about the American people, are incompetent and unable to take care of a natural disaster.
What she does could affect much more than just LA.
It may not be her job, but that is the truth. When she keeps her mouth shut, it allows those that are in charge of the * spin to place all the blame on her and the state of LA. It lets * off the hook just like every other time.
I'm not so sure she is impressing all of the LA public either. One person from LA that posted in this thread didn't have a good opinion of her at all.

23. Blanco only has 24 hours in every day and enough Louisiana problems |
|
to keep her busy.
If she worried about national PR, she could not do her job as governor.
She has to answer to the citizens of Louisiana and no one else.

26. If I was innocent of something, when asked in an interview, I would |
|
defend myself. I haven't seen her do that yet.
I'm not asking her to call a special press conference or anything, but I have seen her doing interviews or press conferences on TV and some of these issues have been brought up and she doesn't really give any answers.
Down here on the gulf coast she is starting to take the majority of the blame and I really hate to see that because I don't think she deserves it.

29. I live here and read the local papers, watch the local news, and listen |
|
to the local radio stations. There has been discussion in all 3 media formats about "the blame."
LTTE and Sound Off mainly. There have been a couple of polls conducted by our news stations and the majority of the people blame the governor.
Most of my friends blame * and FEMA as well, but that doesn't mean the rest of my red state isn't listening and buying the spin.
Sounds like we have the same kind of friends actually. I'm very interested in bringing in new friends in my very red state.
Hope you have a nice evening. :)

blame then bushco has no reason to try and grab even more power from her state by claiming that she isn't willing to take responsibility herself.
