Harold Ford shilling for DeLay on MSNBC |
|
Saying he is inocent until proven guilty and such. He, as a Democrat, was touting the Republican talking points. This proves that the DLC and the Republican party are one and the same.

2. He IS innocent until proven guilty, what else would you expect him to say? |
|
It's bad form for party leaders to pile on at this point. I'll need further evidence before I start criticizing a Dem for "shilling for Delay." Did he say anything like "I have spoken to Tom, and am certain he has done nothing wrong"? No?

|
if ASKED, he could have responded with "innocent until proven," (if at all) but he's VOLUNTEERING this defense. That's the OP's sticking point

11. From the OP, I can't tell that he was or wasn't asked. |
|
I'm assuming if he was on TV, he was asked. I don't see it as defending a crook. I see it as defending our judicial system.

It's pointing out the obvious. That's kind of leap to make him a shill for DeLay.

33. Well, it just so happens to be a Republican talking point, too. |
|
He was also talking about stopping partisan attacks in Congress. Not necesarily putting the hear on DeLay.
Listen, Ford knows how corrupt this bastard is, and all he has to say is "Innocent until proven guilty." Come on.

Not a fucking thing!
I like Nancy Pelosi's form, and Howard Dean's as well.
Attack the repukes for their endless corruption.
We have nothing to gain by being nice.

12. Too many Americans fall for that INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY nonsense. |
|
The accused are only innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Outside of the court, it is the People's prerogative, if not the People's responsibility, to come to our own conclusions.
Call it freedom.

That is the key point.
I don't find fault with Ford saying it in the context he did. At this time, in terms of being a member of the House, Ford can't call for him to be sent packing.
But in general terms, "innocent until proven guilty" is very misunderstood. Tom Delay is guilty as sin.

for a trial to take place. That is their charge. They are not judging whether the evidence makes him guilty or not.

34. Obviously, this goes beyond that. |
|
This is the critical period where the population is judging whether this case is BS or whether it has merit. I guaruntee you most of the population has never heard of this story until today. Ford knows for sure that DeLay is crooked. Yet he gives the impression that "Who knows if he is corrupt...it hasn't been proven yet."
That is complete BS. The public is formulating their opinions NOW on this issue, and that is the best he can do?

35. I mean about the specific charge in question |
|
There's plenty of places for people to get their speculation on this charge, Ford's statement of fact isn't going to change that. I do think he should discuss Delay's and the repug leaders various ethics problems quite forcefully.
No reason he needs to say whether he thinks Delay will ultimately be found guilty or not on this specific charge unless he wants to. There is plenty of other material to work with.
So I join you in disgust if Ford is failing to raise the overall question of ethics in the republican leadership. I didn't see the interview.
