Bill Bennett to African Americans: "You're dragging us down"
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 06:39 AM by Cocoa
He's telling blacks, you should be grateful to white people like me that oppose abortion.

If we anti-choice white people were acting only in our self-interest, we wouldn't even allow you to exist.

Imagine how good we could have it without you dragging us down, think of the crime rate, think of the test scores!

But, we are so full of virtue that put our ideals over the security of our property, and we share space on earth with you (please stay out of my nice suburb, however).

edit: these are not Bennett's words, they're my interpretation of his attitude.

1. Does anyone have the crime statistics
for 2002, 2003 or 2004 (by race/ethnicity)? I'd also like to see white collar crime stats.

12. I'm a minority
and I say it too, and add on to it. Minorities, homosexuals, women, poor people, true christians, and non-christians who vote for rethugs are fucking idiots.

6. Don't think he said these words - just that they are implied
in his earlier statement. Though with BillieBoyBennett it is hard to tell.

9. Here are the pathetic words Bennett said:
Former Republican Education Secretary, Bill Bennett stated on his radio program yesterday that,

"if you wanted to reduce crime, you could - if that were your sole purpose - abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."

13. he prefaced those comments with the phrase "I know this to be true"
expressing his belief in the certainty of the statement he was about to make. Disgusting bigot.

14. He also used to be Drug Czar.
Another position in which he could disproportionately attack African-Americans.

16. do you remember the timing of his "drug czar" position
wonder if it coincides with the whole story (broke in the SJ Merc News, later forced to be backed away from, and recently the author of the series committed suicide) - per intentional importation of cocaine converted to crack (to make it affordable - and spread it across inner cities) - in order to earn more $$ to funnel back to the Contras in Nicaragua?

19. it never before occured to me
til you reminded me of his stint.

I think the timing of the allegations were around 1986 (not the timing of the story breaking that was in the 1990s, but the timing of the efforts to spread crack into urban centers).

That is around the time Bennet did his ed sec stint. I just don't recall how quick the turnaround was for him from one position to the other - or if it was under bushsr that he did Drug Czar.

Moral Outrage Czar Bennet: Aborting Black Babies Would Lower Crime Rate

Edited on Thu Sep-29-05 12:29 AM by BurtWorm

According to Media Matters:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200509280006

From the September 28 broadcast of Salem Radio Network's Bill Bennett's Morning in America:

CALLER: I noticed the national media, you know, they talk a lot about the loss of revenue, or the inability of the government to fund Social Security, and I was curious, and I've read articles in recent months here, that the abortions that have happened since Roe v. Wade, the lost revenue from the people who have been aborted in the last 30-something years, could fund Social Security as we know it today. And the media just doesn't -- never touches this at all.

BENNETT: Assuming they're all productive citizens?

CALLER: Assuming that they are. Even if only a portion of them were, it would be an enormous amount of revenue.

BENNETT: Maybe, maybe, but we don't know what the costs would be, too. I think as -- abortion disproportionately occur among single women? No.

CALLER: I don't know the exact statistics, but quite a bit are, yeah.

BENNETT: All right, well, I mean, I just don't know. I would not argue for the pro-life position based on this, because you don't know. I mean, it cuts both -- you know, one of the arguments in this book Freakonomics that they make is that the declining crime rate, you know, they deal with this hypothesis, that one of the reasons crime is down is that abortion is up. Well --

CALLER: Well, I don't think that statistic is accurate.

BENNETT: Well, I don't think it is either, I don't think it is either, because first of all, there is just too much that you don't know. But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky.
