with misogynist Roberts on the bench, our america is dead and gone

for us to keep trying to save america from the clutches of the criminal bushgang is like trying to resurrect a corpse. ain't going to happen.

Life is change and loss, we survive it or we don't.

america will never be what it was.

if we do somehow manage to rid the country of the bushgang, what's left will be pitiful. and it will take many years to get beyond the pitiful state, if ever.

we are looking at global warming's horrific effects, less and less oil and gas at more and more higher prices, pollutions and toxins degrading all life re: fertility, brain power; leaving less and less sensible, logical minds to run things.

holding marches around an empty W.H. does nothing.

24/7, 365 protests in front of all media bldgs. could have a bigger pay off.

but it's time to think of self, of protecting self, cause there is no american govt. that will help you. ask the storm survivors. ask our soldiers coming home with DU poison. the new medicare prescription plan is ludicrous and so convoluted you know it is a scam.

there will be no revolution

can you tell I'm mourning...........

1. How is he any different than Rehnquist?
After decades of Rehnquist, our America is having big problems, but still here.

— and even worse. But we're still here and we'll be back on top again. America is still here.

28. I don't know about "more bully power". Scalia's probably...
really p*ssed that he wasn't made Chief Justice, so who knows what he'll do now to get even with B*. We can only hope that he's vindictive enough to vote against his natural inclination just to spite B*.

Nor is he dying anytime soon, so we won't get a Ratzinger reprieve either. That's enough reason to any progressive to be depressed.

15. Do you mind if I ask you
if you were alive during Watergate? I'm not snarking, I swear. No sarcasm. But living through it was pretty rough. The President resigned and it looked for a while like the country would never recover. I was about 24 and I was really bummed out about all of it, although I had never been a Nixon fan. It was internationally embarrassing, as well.

Questions were being asked. The press was reporting. And that was about a political burglary.

Today, a TRAITOR compromises the security of the US by outing a 20 year CIA operation and the press defends the sucker. No House questioning. Nothing. The administration and the press are controlled by outside sources. Remember Bush's big loan from the BCCI arranged by the Saudis. And that the Saudis transfered 5.5% of the stock of Murdock's New Corp from non-voting to voting. How much more do they own?

Yes, I consider things are worse.

13. I think donsu is correct
Nixon had some decent human moments. Bush has had none;
will have none.
The system still worked somewhat
back then.
(Will our votes ever count again?)
Bush still has over two years left in office
to pound on us. Then what will stop them from stealing the
election in '08 - we could not stop them the last two times.
I fear donsu is correct.

27. But we look back on Watergate now and have 20/20 hindsight
when it was going down it looked like Nixon would just lie his way right on through. Nobody thought it would bring him down. We thought the dirty tricks guys would win. Now we see that the system worked.

I have hope that election reform WILL happen. And I have hope that at the very LEAST we vote the rascals outin 06. I don't have a lot of hope for impreach, indict and imprison, though.

Remember, Ford pardoned Nixon right after he took office. Bush isn't going anywhere. If he resigns Cheney will pardon him ASAP.

No sarcasm on MY part. Roberts = Rehnquist. Status quo ante bellum. Save the fillibuster for something we can win on, and that matters.

24. You think they'll have the nerve to filibuster Janice Brown?
I'll give you 10-1 odds she flys through faster than Roberts did.

Even though a WaPo editorial specifically calls for her filibuster should she be nominated:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/06/AR2005060601734.html

The dems are paid for by the same corporations as the repukes. Check out www.opensecrets.org if you don't believe me.

30. Let's see what happens. If we filibuster when we don't have a chance
of winning either public opinion or at least a bit of complacency from the GOP, they'll just kill the filibuster, we'll lose any support we've got (just because the Republicans have low approval rating does not mean people will vote for us), and they'll appoint who they want, anyway. We win nothing, we lose everything.

A lot of Dems seem to agree with Bush--this would be easier if it were a dictatorship and we were in charge. It isn't. Well, not in our direction, anyway.

31. I read in the paper this morning that Sen. Lindsay Graham...
(who was one of the 7 Republicans who joined with the 7 Democrats to preserve the filibuster) said something about backing out of the filibuster deal if Democrats tried to filibuster B*'s nomination to replace O'Connor. So much for trusting both sides to do what they actually agreed to do in the filibuster deal. (I suspect that Graham is really getting a lot of heat about the deal at this point.)

20. Reminds me of the 80s. Makes me hate Nader more than I hate Bush.
We beat the neocons in 92, and just as we were going to get the progressive Gore in power, ego maniac lying bastard Nader sabotages us while taking Republican money to the bank.

We'll win in 2008, we'll have a successful but maddeningly moderate president, and then in eight years we'll be poised to move further to the left. Let's hope Nader is dead by then.

33. I'm with you Joby.....Al Gore may well be the greatest president America
never had and we owe it, in some large part, to Ralph Nader. Hopefully byt the time 2008 rolls around he'll be safely ensconced in a nursing home run, managed and staffed by Republicans.

Hell, we survived 35 years of Rehnquist-we can survive anything.

32. Sorry if I don't hand you a kleenex
Yeah it hurts to be on the losing end. Yeah it sucks that chimpy's administration is corrupt, incompetent, greedy, intolerant, and on and on. Yeah there isn't go to be a "revolution".

And if this was the day after election day last November I could understand being in "mourning".

But its a year later (nearly), and I don't know if you're too young to remember or you've forgotten, but here are some numbers to reflect on:

1972: Nixon (a real saint) defeats McGovern, capturing all but one state and DC, and 18 million more votes

1980: Reagan (mr. sensitive liberal) defeats Carter, capturing all but six states and DC, and 7 million more votes

1984: Reagan (four more years) defeats Mondale, capturing all but one state and DC, and 18 million more votes

1988: BUsh I (gulf war guy) defeats Dukakis, capturing all but 10 states and DC, and 7 million more votes

2000: Bush II (incompetent boob) defeats* Gore, who captures 20* states plus DC and actually wins the popular vote by around 1/2 million.

2004: Bush II (wartime leader of war on terra) defeats Kerry, who captures 19 states plus DC and less than a million fewer popular votes.

I could see mourning for a long time after 1972, after 80 and 84, and after 88. But after the last two elections, my reaction has been to mourn for a day or two and then start fighting to win back control of Congress and the White House. And I don't think we are as effective fighting if we are spending any of our time mourning.
